SS501, (pronounced as double S-501) is one of Korea's most beloved boy bands made more popular by their hit song, "Because I'm Stupid." 2009's number one Korean Drama, "Boys Over Flowers," featured their song throughout their whole series and is also included in their soundtrack. The group's popularity in Asia sky-rocketed after their leader, Kim Hyun Joong, portrayed the role "Yoon Ji Hoo" in the same hit series. SS501 Sub-unit composed of Young Saeng, Kyu Jong & Hyung Jun also appeared in a cameo role in Boys Over Flower, where they sang one of their most popular songs, U R Man. [NEWS] Queen of Reversals Surpasses Athena, Another Extension?

The battle of the Monday-Tuesday dramas is heating up, as MBC's "Queen of Reversals" noses ahead in the ratings. Monday's broadcast pulled in 15.7% (AGB Nielson), beating SBS's "Athena: Goddess of War" for the first time. "Athena" began its run with explosive 22.8% ratings, but has steadily declined over the last five weeks, landing at 15.2% on Monday.

The growing ratings might be a factor in MBC's decision to offer "Queen" yet ANOTHER extension. It's just by one episode, due to a scheduled preemption on January 31 for the 2011 Asia Cup. Because most Monday-Tuesday dramas end on a Tuesday, MBC wants the show to go out with an additional episode, bringing the total count to 33. The production has yet to agree, mostly due to the fact that the entire cast and staff have already been exhausting themselves with the current extension, although I'm not sure what one episode either way will do. If the drama decides against the offer, MBC plans to air the last two episodes on a Tuesday night, one week earlier. Perhaps the extension is yet another move to give The Duo an extra week before premiering. Couldn't hurt.

As far as the current ratings battle, they seem to be leveling out, which is about where they fare with me on the to-watch scale: that is, some Mondays I start with "Athena," and others I start with "Queen." Strangely, I like them equally too, but for wholly different reasons, as they inhabit two completely different ends of the drama spectrum. I like the dark spy world of "Athena" peppered with funny antics, and well, "Queen" is boring one minute, and then coffee laced with crack the next minute.

It's taken the extended episodes (twelve more added to the original twenty) to flesh out Park Shi-hoo's character, and now he's totally taking over in leading man territory. It's just enough to take me from skeptical, to hopeful….to downright delusional. I don't think I'm alone, though, as the drama is pushing the Kim Tae-hee/Gu Yong-shik pairing in a way that it wasn't before the extension. All the romantic moments are reserved for them, which is either a really good sign (*crosses fingers, throws salt, does chant*) or a totally evil move to fake me out. I'm preparing an effigy in case it's the latter.

BEAST reveals the teaser videos for their encore concert

For the fans who have been waiting for the opening of the ticket sales on the 12th at 2PM KST, BEAST's management had posted the first version of the teaser for the encore concert via their official Youtube channel and the official fan café to hype up the mood for the special event.

BEAST will be posting up the corresponding teasers for the BEAST encore concert 'Welcome BACK to BEAST Airline' that will be held on February 18th and 19th at the Seoul Olympic Gymnasium. The first one was the 'Yoon Doojoon Version' and along with the release, the official promotions have begun.

Also, the management stated that they will be revealing the concert teasers for each member for six days starting with Yoon Doojoon. The teasers this time will display the stage videos for each member along with the narration of comments that each member experienced about the first solo concert with their own voice.

There is an importance on the fact that BEAST members showed no hesitation choosing the first concert as the moment that was their happiness and joy and that the encore concert will be a rerun of that moment.

Also, at the end of last year, BEAST had shown intense popularity with their first solo concert selling out the first day. Not only that, this concert had been on the ranking for the 'Must Go-to Concerts' making the anticipation rise even more with the ticket sales opening.

In addition, Interpark, the system that will be selling BEAST's concert tickets, had decided to upgrade their servers and run maintenance in order to handle the influx of fans on the 12th at 8PM KST.

Meanwhile, BEAST members are currently practicing and preparing for the spectacle appearance and formations they will be displaying at the encore concert.

On Jan 10th, Samsung Electronics revealed that they have selected IU, who's received lots of love from uncle fans since the 2010 releases of 'Nagging' and 'Good Day,' to be their new spokesmodel.

Showcasing her 3-level octave during 'Good Day,' IU's popularity was confirmed when the song placed #1 on music charts for 3 weeks. Most recently, viewers have been captivated by IU's acting abilities as the 'sushi girl' in the drama series 'Dream High.'

In regards to being chosen as the new spokesmodel for Samsung Anycall, IU stated "I am extremely happy to have been chosen to model for the brand Anycall which has boasted top stars such as Lee Hyori, Eric, BoA, and Lee Junki,' and "As a singer, actress, and now CF model, I will work hard to showcase my abilities and my continuous growth as an all-around entertainer."

[News] Big Bang’s new album to contain rock music?

Big Bang's leader G Dragon was excited when he talked about their new album which is going to be released.

The 5-member idol group BIGBANG will come back to Korea music industry in February with a brand new album. After the album released in November, 2008, it has been 2 years and 3 months that they restart their group activities.

When G dragon was meeting the reporter of Star News and he said they have already entered the final stage of production of their CD and they are making use of their spare time to put finishing touches to the CD.

G Dragon further elaborated , 'because we know it is our music that our fans like most but not the dance; therefore, at this time, we are making music which can attract people of all ages and they are comfortable too.'

G Dragon said that their new album will tend to contain more Rock songs and BIGBANG will access various kinds of music as well.

In the new album, we can expect to find out songs sung by all five of them instead of their solos or duets. And they will be focusing on the domestics activities in this year with a view of meeting more local friends through a variety of activities.

Before BIGBANG comes back, the members have been active in different units. G Dragon and Hip-Hop rapper released their album last month and then they have been carrying our the promotion together. On 20th, Seungri will release his digital single and start his solo activities.

Yonsama*-Produced "Dream High" Rises Favorably in Viewer Ratings




"Dream High," a drama currently airing on KBS2 in Korea, is rising favorably in viewer ratings, and is working its way on passing its competition "Athena: Goddess of War."

According to AGB Nielson Media Research on the 12th, the episode of "Dream High" that aired on the 11th recorded an average viewer rating of 13.8% nation-wide. Furthermore, it received a viewer rating of 14.3% in the capital city of Seoul, exceeding the viewer rating of 13.9% for "Athena: Goddess of War" which aired on the same day.

"Dream High," which stars currently active idols, started out with a viewer rating of 10.7% on the 3rd of this month. Loaded with music and dance highlights afterwards, the viewer ratings have been on the rise.

On the other hand, "Queen of Reversals," which airs on MBC in the same time slot, received a 1.7 higher viewer rate than its previous airing, recording at 17.4%. It is currently the most-watched drama for that time slot. Additionally, the KBS1 drama "Smile, Dong Hae" recorded the highest viewer rating of 34.5%, making it shine in the number 1 spot out of all programs that aired that day.

A Chinese variety show aired from the 1st this year called Idol birth, is gaining attention from netizens saying that it was copied from Invincible youth.
