[News] KBS's President Off To a Slow Start

The battle of the presidents has begun! Only, it wasn't much of a battle with SBS's Blue House drama Daemul leading the pack by a wide margin, drawing a 25.7% rating against KBS's premiere episode of President, which had a 6.3%.

The numbers are a bit of a drop-off from the finale of Runaway Plan B, which signed off last week with a 13.6%. Despite the slow start, though, it seems like President is drawing initially favorable responses, and it's still early days for the show. With Daemul nearing its end, the real question is how well it'll perform once the big rival is out of the way.

Over on MBC, the "Korean Desperate Housewives" drama Home Sweet Home pulled its highest rating yet, nearing but unable to quite make it into double digits with a 9.9% rating.

President tracks the progress of an assemblyman (Choi Su-jong) as he runs for president with his strong, capable wife at his side (Ha Hee-ra). Their family includes three children, the eldest of whom was adopted and is played by Personal Taste's In-hee Bot, Wang Ji-hye. The couple also has two biological children, a son played by idol star Sungmin of Super Junior (whose character name is likewise Sung-min) and a daughter played by Park Mi-jin.

Another pop singer is featured in the cast, Trax member Jay (J?), who received strong marks for his acting performance. He plays the secret son of our presidential candidate — scandalous! — who hears the truth of his father's identity as an adult. And… then starts to "grow closer" with Wang Ji-hye… his biological father's adopted daughter.

4Minute's first full album was released on the 15th, setting the start for another round of promotion in Japan. 4Minute's different from other girl groups that also enter the Japanese market such as Kara and SNSD in the sense that they used more unconventional and original Japanese songs in their promotions to attract the attention of Japanese public. 

Before the release of 'DIAMOND' on the 15th, promotions have already begun on the 4th and 5th as 4Minute had their '4Minute LIVE Energery Vol.2 DIAMOND' in Tokyo and Osaka. 4000 seats in the concert was sold clean, hence expectation for the first full album was high.

In this album, other than Japanese versions of Muzik and I My Me Mine, as well as other popular tracks, there are also 4 new songs, Hide & Seek, Can't Make Up My Mind, Already Gone and December. The new songs have separately shown the different styles of 4Minute, amalgamating the charisma of 4Minute.

Shinsadong Tiger, who have worked with 4Minute all along, and other professional Japanese composers have contributed in producing this full album. 4Minute will release a new album in Korea early next year.

Kim Hyun Joong's special 4-D personality is gradually coming to light. On 15th Dec 2010, SBS E!TV will air the segment, Tak Jae-hun's Style, and will include the coverage on The Legend of Idols in their 20s, covering the birth and creation of princes in pop groups DBSK and SS501.

- This is your first time performing in Tokyo Dome, what is your feeling?

Since advancing into Japan, my target is to (perform) in Bodokan Areana and then lastly in Tokyo Dome, 2 of my targets were accomplished this year, even my final target has been accomplished. Even though it is not a solo concert, being able to perform in Tokyo Dome, I understood about the dignity of this concert venue. I have the ambition to be able to hold a concert in Tokyo Dome when my solo album is released next year.

- For a moment, you mentioned before to focus on acting, but you will release a solo album next year and will be starting your activities as a singer.

Acting and singing will go on side by side. Even though it is tough, it is not too hard on me. I want to show myself as a singer and also showing myself acting.

- You are close to Bae YongJoon personally as to even call him 'hyung', what is your thought about seeing Bae YongJoon in Tokyo Dome this time?

He seems like a different person somehow. I felt that he is really remarkable when I saw him talking naturally with the audience on such a big stage. I watched YongJoon hyung on stage at Tokyo Dome for about 10 minutes, and I felt many times that he is 'Yon-sama' at that time rather than YongJoon hyung. I felt a little awkward with that feeling.

- Changing your management agency to KeyEast, you have been called as 'Little Yon-sama' 'Post Bae YongJoon'.

I don't feel upset about 'Post Yon-sama' 'The 2nd Yon-sama' 'The 2nd Bae YongJoon'. I think that it is a compliment this way because 'Yon-sama' has an extreme influence on culture. I wish to become even just half as good as him. My weapon is to be able to act, dance and sing, so I think I will be something, be it 'The 2nd Yon-sama' or 'The 1st Kim HyunJoong'."

- It is not exaggerating to say that Kim HyunJoong's posters are all over Myeongdong Seoul. You have received lots of love from fans all over Asia, what is the appealing part of it?

I went to Singapore and Malaysia and extremely many people came to support. I was really shocked because there were really a lot who came. I find it very amazing and was shocked, I think it is no doubt the growth of internet. Because they can easily learn about Hallyu and download videos almost simultaneously, so I also have fans from far away countries. Above all, I think it is because of the successful exports of 'Boys over Flowers'.

- In this performance at Tokyo Dome, you showed yourself dancing which you haven't shown for a long time. What is your feeling?

It is not that I will not dance when I am not coming out as a dance singer, I am practicing dancing everyday. So that I will not get unfamiliar with it. My solo album which will be released next year has been in preparation since a long time ago. In order to show my image as someone who can sing and dance in front of the public, I continued to dance. Overseas fans mainly know me as Yoon JiHoo from drama 'Boys Over Flowers', so they will be surprised to see me dancing, but I want to show a better image as a singer next year.

- The 1st generation Hallyu star is Bae YongJoon, 2nd generation is So JiSub, it is not too much to say that Kim HyunJoong is the 3rd generation. What is the characteristic of the 3rd generation?

Even though I don't know who set the 1st, 2nd generation, the generation now is to have 'diversity'. Having diverse talents in singing, dancing, and even acting, individuals will stand out with diversity and that is the 3rd generation of Hallyu star.

Recently ZE:A unleashed their first ever Japanese single Love Letter ans also it's music video. This time the group reveals their Christmas song music video. They sing the whole song in English which is pretty impressive which is entitled "My Only Wish"

The music video shows no dancing and hard choreography but it is consist of footages on how the boys record the whole song, photoshoots, interaction with their fans and a early "MERRY CHRISTMAS" from the boys.

On the 15th it was announced that all 9 members of Korean girl group SNSD would be making a guest appearance in the New Years special drama "SAZAE-San 3", which stars actress Mizuki Arisa, and will air next year on January 2nd.While Namihei is having his first dream of the year, he hits a hole in one on a golf course, where SNSD will be here and there playing beautiful caddies. Due to bad weather, filming had to be stopped because it kept raining. During the long filming, SNSD were able to communicate together with the staff in simple Japanese to end the filming on a good note. They didn't lose focus and their acting, as well as Japanese speech, was almost perfect.
SNSD debuted this September with their single "GENIE" and it entered the weekly single ranking chart at #4. The other day "FNS Music Festival (Kayousai)" was aired and the moment the girls were on the screen, the program received its highest ratings of 29.4%. K-POP girls are the new thing blowing in on Japan's music scene.
Producer of the special drama, Asano Sumi, confidently commented, "While I was searching for someone suitable for the New Year's special, I saw SNSD's cute promotional video, and I felt them sparkle, they were exactly who I would want to see while drinking tea with all of my family." The girls' appearance is short, but it's a scene that leaves a vivid impression.

Lee Seung-gi is catching everybody's attention since he was nominated for SBS Entertainment Awards.

SBS revealed, "For the award that sorts the best entertainer of the year, Kang Ho-dong, Yoo Jae-seok, Lee Kyeong-gyoo, and Lee Seung-gi were nominated."

Yoo Jae-seok is leading 'I Love Sunday' and 'Running Man', and Lee Kyeong-gyoo is leading 'Star Junior Show; Bungeobbang'.

Kang Ho-dong is in 'Surprising Show Stocking', and 'Strong Heart'; Lee Seung-gi is in 'Strong Heart'. Especially, Lee Seung-gi is nominated when he is only 23 years-old, which is the youngest nomination age for SBS Entertainment Awards history. So people are wondering if Lee Seung-gi will set the record.

Super Junior, the representative of maturing Asian groups, has rather astounding popularity.

Even though the main character of "President" is Choi Soo Jong, the main character of the press conference is definitely Lee Sungmin.

KBS 2TV Wed-Thurs Drama "President" held their press conference on the 9th at Seoul Samsung-dong. The entrance of the venue was filled up by 89 rice baskets. Of which, 79 of those baskets were meant for Super Junior's Sungmin (real name: Lee Sungmin). About 89% of those were rice baskets to cheer Lee Sungmin on.
