Cable drama Yacha makes a splash, sells overseas Posted: 16 Dec 2010 05:27 AM PST I’ve mentioned cable drama Yacha before as a new OCN show boasting a high budget, special effects, and lots of action. The 12-episode series premiered last weekend to a very impressive — one might call it shockingly high — ratings number of 3.5%. To put it into some perspective, this is a cable drama that airs on midnight on Fridays, where anything above 1% would be hailed a success. Yacha is set in the Joseon era against the backdrop of a secret organization running under the king’s authorization. The story unfolds around two brothers and one woman, and incorporates themes of fate, ambition, and revenge. (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 15 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Mary Stayed Out All Night: Episode 12 Posted: 15 Dec 2010 09:12 PM PST Pro: The episode had some fluffy, light, funny beats, which I’ve been missing lately. Con: This show has LOST ITS MIND. The plot makes no sense at all. Pro: At least the nonsensical plot is moving? Con: But there’s no consistency to the characters! Pro: How ’bout that awesome taunting look on Jang Geun-seok’s face above? Con: Yeah, you got me there. But the plot! The story! The laws that govern human actions and emotions! Pro: …Yeah, you got me there. Con: I win! Oh god, I’m talking to myself. This show has driven me insane. KBS’s President off to a slow start Posted: 15 Dec 2010 04:27 PM PST The battle of the presidents has begun! Only, it wasn’t much of a battle with SBS’s Blue House drama Daemul leading the pack by a wide margin, drawing a 25.7% rating against KBS’s premiere episode of President, which had a 6.3%. The numbers are a bit of a drop-off from the finale of Runaway Plan B, which signed off last week with a 13.6%. Despite the slow start, though, it seems like President is drawing initially favorable responses, and it’s still early days for the show. With Daemul nearing its end, the real question is how well it’ll perform once the big rival is out of the way. (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 28 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
My Princess’s snowy winter date Posted: 15 Dec 2010 10:51 AM PST More pretty stills for Song Seung-heon and Kim Tae-hee, who headline the MBC romantic comedy My Princess. So far the stills have been beautiful, with soft lighting and flattering colors — if nothing else, I’m expecting this drama to be a feast for the eyes. In the lead-up to this scene, Kim Tae-hee’s character, cheapskate university student Lee Seol, receives word of her father after waiting for him to pick her up. The news comes via Hae-young’s (Song Seung-heon grandfather, played by Lee Soon-jae, and is presumably the bad kind, especially since the scene involves Lee Seol shedding tears.
