[News] Leader Nam's Confession?

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 06:09 AM PST

Has our leader found love?

During an episode of SBS's "It's Alright, Daddy's Daughter", scheduled to be broadcast on December 7th, there is a particular scene where she is seen pondering as to which lucky guy would be her boyfriend. The choices are pretty good with Hyuk Gi (Choi Jin Hyuk), Wook Gi (Dong Hae), Yeon Doo (Kang Min Hyuk), and Dong Bo (Park Jung Geun).

Nam Ji Hyun recently made her debut appearance on the show as Shin Seon Hae, a law student, a younger sister of Shin Seon Do (Park Sang Hoon). Her acting has, so far, caught the attention of viewers with her 4-dimensional charm and has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Im YoonA, Micky YooChun, Li HongKi, all who have been successful 'Acting Idols'.

[News] Han Geng confirmed for 'The Founding of a Party', Article + Weibo entry

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 05:57 AM PST

Han Geng's "First Contact" with Movie, Outfit of Classic Style

Han Geng's "first contact" with movies is to take part of the movie "The Founding of the Party". He is playing a pioneer youth Zhao Shiyan. Zhao Shiyan, getting to know the revolutionist pioneer Li Dazhao in his early years (played by Zhang Jiayi), was elected as the General Director of the Student Union in the High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University. In 1920, he went to France for study, and along with Zhou Enlai (the first Premier of the PRC, played by Chen Kun) and others, established the communist group and the Youth Community Party in France.

Han Geng said, "to have an opportunity of being part of this movie is a very meaningful thing." On that day, part of the shooting scenes were between Han Geng and Chen Kun. Han Geng said, "I am so willing to communicate with Chen Kun who is very experienced in acting. This is my first time acting in movie after all!" Han Geng's outfit and style are both eye-catching, his look of holding a book has young intellectual's temperament.

TN: Han Geng's movie stills will be released during the formal promotion period.

6th December, 2:05 am via Sina Weibo:

OP NOTE:

So, why is this such a big deal?

In 2009, The Founding of a Republic, a state sponsored film celebrating the China's 60th anniversary was released. It chalked up impressive box office earnings in its opening week and boasted a star-studded cast. I mean, just look at the cast: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Andy Lau, Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Wei, etc. Most of them made cameos, some didn't even have lines, but essentially their participation in the movie was more symbolic than anything.

The Founding of a Party, then, it's a prequel and again, it boasts a star-studded cast. So far, John Woo, Chow Yun-Fat, Daniel Wu, Andy Lau, Liu Ye, Chen Kun, Zhou Xun, Tang Wei, Zhang Guoli, Dong Jie, and Wang Leehom have been confirmed as appearing, and as you can see, there's some really big names there.

Therefore, the fact that our Han Geng will be appearing in that same movie as some of the aforementioned Chinese stars it's pretty huge and a big honor. No matter how small his role is, just by being casted in this film is an indication of his popularity in China and will be some great exposure. It's huge and Chinese Gengfans are overjoyed at the moment due to this news!

To sum it up, last year I remember he posted about having gone as a movie watcher to see The Founding of a Republic in theaters. Who would've thought that a year and a half later he'd be appearing in its prequel? So proud of you, Han Geng!

[news] YG Family Concert: YG Has Come a Long Way

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 04:36 AM PST

YG holds agency concert over the weekend:
"Eun-joo, I love you," a man confessed during the "YG Family Concert" held in Jamsil Olympic Gymnastic Stadium in Seoul on December 5. It is the man who sang "Smoke of The Devil" but not it's original singer Yang Hyun-suk, the owner of YG Entertainment ("YG" in short) but Seung-ri from boy band Big Bang. Before and after that, another Big Bang member Dae-sung sang Wheesung's "With Me" and TOP and G-Dragon performed Jinusean's "Phone Number." Till the very end of the show, the first generation of YG singers such as Yang, Jinusean and Teddy did not appear on stage but the three-hour concert was already packed enough with hit songs by singers such as Gummy, Se7en, Big Bang, 2NE1 and PSY. 15 years has passed since YG Entertainment has launched and it has certainly grown large.

But the "YG Family Concert" was not about scale. The real fun lied in its diversity; from Yang Hyun-suk's "Smoke of the Devil" to 2NE1's "Can't Nobody," and from Gummy's "I'm Sorry" to PSY's "Entertainer." Each and every singer had something unique to offer. If it were Big Bang and 2NE1 that succeeded in eliciting shouts of joy from the crowd, the finishing touch came from Gummy and PSY who 'completed' the concert. While Gummy's powerful vocals as she sang "Loveless," with a rock arrangement, overwhelmed the crowd, her singing sentimental piece "We Should Have Become Friends At Least" with 2NE1 provided a rare moment of serenity to the excited stadium. The duet performance of "You & I" by Gummy and Park Bom also brought out kinship between senior and junior singers of YG Family followed by Big Bang's performance. PSY who had already performed with four other teams in the beginning of the concert, wrapped up the first half of the show with a bang by marking a climax with his songs "Entertainer" and "RIGHT NOW." PSY rightfully proved his ability to drive the audience wild, the rawness that differentiates him from the YG's past styles, confirming that he was the last piece of the puzzle that the YG Family needed.

Secrets of YG Family's Power: Diversity

SM Entertainment is a village of idols. JYP Entertainment is a nation that Park Jin-young set up. And YG is like one big family that allows different people come together. From Yang to Min-ji of 2NE1, YG has continuously expanded its horizon while at the same time, maintaining its identity. To show the world that there is more to YG than just hip-hop music, they admitted Gummy, Wheesung and Big Mama and in the era of idols, the company introduced Big Bang and 2NE1. Most singers that join YG tend to stay there for a long time and take part in managing the company years later or become producers themselves while singers with different characteristics walk paths of their own choices.

When the crowd cheered for G-Dragon and TOP as they sang to "Ppuk-i-gayo," one of the tracks to their upcoming joint-project album, it was not just their star quality that made the crowd go crazy. They created images for themselves through individual projects, developing on their musical tastes through singles released outside of their five-member group. The sharp and fancy rap of G-Dragon and the heavy, rough rap by TOP complemented each other perfectly; as was the stage performance in which G-Dragon busily roamed around the entire stage while TOP stood still but knew when to strike with a memorable gesture. That is why they are family - not because they are the same but because they are different, because they create synergy when Gummy and Park Bom, or G-Dragon and TOP are put together. And what ties them together can ultimately goes down to YG's history of maintaining a family-like structure. When Se7en started singing "Please Come Back" and wore Heelys in the middle of the song, the audience cheered at him. YG's identity lies in the fact that Se7en has remained with YG since his debut in 2003 and was the main speaker for the encore performances.

Dazzling, diverse but in focus

YG Family's tradition of strong individuality stemmed from Yang Hyun-suk, on the other hand, was also a setback for the latest concert. Because the stage had to cover singers of all genres, it was impossible to go any further than making the stage large enough for running around. The job of sound mixing was tricky given the different style of each singer and how they mix MR with live band depending on the song. So while the stage did an excellent job of bringing out powerful sounds like drums and electric guitar that clearly differentiated the high and low tones, it left room for improvement on bringing out the details of those sounds. And many times, the vocals of the artists got lost in other sound effects.

But that being said, the "YG Family Concert" by all means was not the kind that becomes less appealing because of a couple of problems. Big Bang practically flew about the stage, while TOP brought the house down by occasionally getting so close to the audience that he practically stuck his face in front of theirs. Se7en led his stage with ease and suaveness, presenting songs which were a well-made mixture of dance number and R & B. And as for PSY, he just drove the audience to the hilt with few words. The stage drew the best result it could given its limit as a joint concert. The screen on stage, where black was used a bit too much, boasted high quality while the giant screen in the center adorned imagery that suited each stage. The splendid harmony of lights and colors at every corner of the stage, thanks to the efforts of the stage producers, helped create the mood for the concert. This coupled with light sticks shinning either for Big Bang or Se7en showed the concert the way it is - dazzling, diverse, but staying in focus. And yes, this is how far YG, or rather its family, has come.

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 12:48 AM PST

TVXQ Yunho's hand-carry bag made the record for the highest bid of KRW1,000,000* at the "Charity Auction by Hallyu Stars for Flood Victims", held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The "Korea Festival" was held from 30 November – 5 December and it is organised by the Thai-Korean Embassy and the Korea Thailand Communication Centre (KTCC), with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand. This auction was organised to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Thai soldiers who fought in the Korean War, as well as give aid to 3,000,000 flood victims.

Cherished items were collected from top Thai stars and popular Hallyu stars like TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD, Kim Rae Won, Cho Hyunjun and Lee Junki.

The highest amount recorded at the charity auction went to a small hand-carry leather bag and even though there are no special decorations, just by the fact that it had been touched by Yunho's hand, it was sold at the high price of KRW1,000,000.

Lee Yoohyun, the representative for the KTCC, said, "It was an event where the Hallyu stars could confirm the great love from the Thai fans. Simple items like hats and t-shirts were auctioned off at prices ranging from KRW30,000 – KRW1,000,000.

Meanwhile, the items received from 130 Hallyu stars raised KRW24,000,000 in total and items from Art Korea artists by the Korea-Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai branch of the Institute for National Unification raised KRW28,000,000. This fund will be passed to the headquarters of the task force for the Thailand flood on 8 December.

*KRW1,000,000 is approximately USD$882

[News] First Broadcast Of JYJ’s Music In Korea – Explosion Of Popularity Creates Interest

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 12:49 AM PST

The new album by Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu (henceforth known as JYJ), which cannot be heard on any station previously, was aired on the special broadcast by Radio 21 last weekend, and this has caused countless download hits after the broadcast, showing an explosion of popularity.

Due to the lawsuit with SM Entertainment (henceforth known as SM), this album cannot be broadcasted normally on the radio stations so the fans can only listen and spread the word (about the album) through the Internet.

During the interview today, reporter Kim said, "All these songs were not heard on air after the album was released; not on a single station" and "listening to their music through Radio 21 was the first time that their songs were aired in Korea, hence it received a lot of attention."

Having heard about the issue of the broadcast, Jaejoong wrote a message on his Twitter, "Thank you Radio 21″, and after hearing the news, many of JYJ's fans flooded the Radio 21 special bulletin board to express their gratitude, leaving messages like "I see hope in Korean broadcasts!" and "Thank you!", as well as many other messages left in Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
