First Lady Ha Hee-ra in KBS’s President Posted: 11 Dec 2010 05:27 AM PST With Runaway Plan B now over, KBS turns its attention to new drama President, to air on Wednesdays and Thursdays opposite that other presidential show, Daemul. You can bet there’ll be a lot of interest in comparing the two, even though Daemul is heading into its final stretch and will only be overlapping with President for a couple weeks. I’m also willing to bet that we’ll see a lot of comparisons between the two leading ladies, although one is a sitting president (Daemul’s Go Hyun-jung) and the other a wife to a congressman-turned-president (that’s this drama’s Ha Hee-ra, pictured here, who happens to be the real-life wife of the drama’s leading man Choi Su-jong). Trailer for comedic period mystery Joseon’s Great Detective Posted: 10 Dec 2010 08:20 PM PST The character posters and trailer are out for Joseon’s Great Detective: Secret of the Wolfsbane, which looks like it could be a hoot. The film is highly stylized and peppered with action and comedy, which has me sitting up in interest — plus, it stars A-list leading man Kim Myung-min (Beethoven Virus, My Love By My Side). Always a good thing. Kim plays the titular hero, the top detective of the Joseon era, who seems like a Sherlock Holmes-y type of character with his mix of bravado, confidence, and goofiness (though perhaps less depraved/tortured). The normally sweet-faced, lively Han Ji-min (Cain & Abel, Yi San) is looking a lot bolder and darker for her role; she’s also wearing a lot of black and red, which is practically movie/drama code for “sly femme fatale.” We’ve already seen the first movie poster featuring Kim Myung-min, and here are the rest. Her poster bears the tagline, “What is it you wish to know?” That, coupled with the sly smiles and knowing glances in the trailer video, gives her an aura of mystery. Coffee Prince novelist and scriptwriter signs on for new drama Posted: 10 Dec 2010 04:07 PM PST Coffee Prince novelist and scriptwriter Lee Jung-ah (also known as Lee Sun-mi) has contracted with production company Chorokbaem Media, the company behind hit series Chuno, Jumong, and High Kick, for whom she will be writing a new drama project. According to a Chorokbaem representative, they’re aiming for Lee Jung-ah’s new drama to come out sometime next year. Her contract won’t be limited to trendy dramas, but “sets the groundwork to showcase a diverse drama lineup.” I’m taking note of this because Lee Jung-ah is a writer who is relatively famous even though she hasn’t had a ton of drama-writing experience. She had a prolific career as the author of dozens of novels prior to hitting it big with Coffee Prince, but that one project was enough of a success to garner her a lot of attention. Ha Ji-won revisits Damo for Secret Garden Posted: 10 Dec 2010 12:19 PM PST Ha Ji-won finds herself back in Joseon-era costume for the upcoming episode of her current rom-com series Secret Garden, which airs this weekend. Ha is pictured above holding a script titled “Are You In Pain? So Am I,” which I presume is the new movie production that Ra-im, her stuntwoman character, finds herself working on. The show has been delighting fans not just for its humor and the crackling chemistry between Ha and co-star Hyun Bin, but also the little pop-culture references sprinkled throughout the episodes, which include this brief transformation: Ha played a Joseon-era policewoman in the much-loved 2003 drama Damo, which was one of her most memorable early performances. In fact, a production source explains that her character in this movie-within-the-drama actually IS Damo’s Chae-ok, not just a character who happens to look the same.
