SM wants to avoid another Han-kyung or JYJ situation

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:01 AM PST

So, they have revised their current contracts!

After being prompt by the FTC (Fair Trade Comission)earlier this year, SME revised their contracts for their current artists like SNSD, SHINee,Super Junior,f(x) etc…

The FTC demanded they draft a new contract, because they found that one of their trainees contracts to be unfair. When they changed the trainee’s contract, all of their artists contracts were changed as well.

After being sued by the members of JYJ and Super Junior’s Han-kyung, the company has since shorten their approx 13 year contract by 3 years.

 SME quoted stating the following:

“As leaders of the industry, we have been cooperating closely with the National Assembly and other related bureaucracies in order to protect the rights and interests of our celebrities, and to aid in the advancement of Korea's entertainment industry and the Hallyu wave."

SM Entertainment was also told(by the FTC) to remove the clause about scheduling activities without the artist’s consent. Also, artists are no longer forced to pay astronomical fees if they break the contract. If they choose to break the contract they will pay average monthly sales of two years before the contract termination, multiplied by the number of months in the remaining period.

Cassies may have prompt others to see the unfair clauses in DBSK’s former contract, but it looks like those days are gone. SM Entertainment has learned the error of their ways with previous artists (especially with Han-kyung winning his case against them) and the company is trying its best to avoid any incidents like that from happeing in the future.

Is SM Entertainment a fair company?  They are certainly headed in the right direction now. In previous years, they may have made some mistakes…but no one is perfect, right? Sometimes we all need a wake-up call to point us in the right direction.

What do you think?

How does Lee Hyori spend her day?

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 11:51 PM PST

What does the sexy cutie, Lee Hyori, do all day?

Based on her endorsements, a super fan detailed her day over at DCinside.com. First, she chows down on some morning rice from her Cuchen ricecooker, then she slaps on some makeup with Clio (emphasizing her eyes with heavy black liner), then she picks out something to wear from her Top Girl closet. After work, she settles down with a drink of soju and eats Korean beef (Hanwoo). And when the weekend rolls around, she dons on her weekend warrior hat by being outfitted in head to toe Fila.

Not bad for a day’s worth of work.

Check out soju CFs:

Won Bin: Are women really this clean…?

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 11:07 PM PST

What the…..? What is the guy implying?

Actor Won Bin‘s latest endorsement for Cuckoo Rice Cookers shows the actor walking through a minimalistic modern room to a rice cooker on a countertop. He reveals a new feature of the cooker – namely a removable lid.  That’s fine and dandy. However, what he says at the end just irked me: “Are women this clean?” What the hell is this supposed to mean – that they were dirty in general? Call me sensitive but this one is an epic fail for the CF producers.

KARA Reaches A New Level Of Success

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:52 PM PST

Arriving to Japan in August with their booty shaking dance hit “Mister”, KARA‘s 1st single’s proved to be their most popular, as it has reached Platinum status in sales.

Releasing the list of album/single sales, the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) revealed that with 250,000 sales, KARA has become the 1st foreign Asian female group to ever reach Platinum status in Japan.

The group has certainly proved their popularity many times this year, from their 1st album “KARA Best 2007-2010″ to their 1st original album “Girl’s Talk” which was able to rank on year end charts.

“Girl’s Talk” is expected by many to reach Platinum next, as the album was able to quickly sell 140,000 in only one month.

Girls’ Generation’s “Hoot” Album Invades Oricon Charts

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:50 PM PST

Seems like no one can resist Girls’ Generation latest album.

Achieving success in Korea with the release of their 3rd mini album “Hoot“, it was only a matter of time before the album’s popularity would reach the shores of Japan.

On December 22nd Girls’ Generation unleashed the Japanese version of the album, and with just day 1, the group has sold over 21,000 copies of the album and was able to rank at no.2 on the Japanese Oricon Daily Charts.

Weeks before the release Tower Records, Japan’s biggest music selling store, become overwhelmed with calls over the album’s release, and the CD+DVD+photobook version of the mini album ranked in 2nd on Tower Records pre-order charts.

Girls’ Generation as popular as they have become, were no match for Japan’s  Ayumi Hamasaki who debuted at no.1 selling 70,000 copies of her latest album.

But regardless, the group’s album certainly shows a change in the industry, as group’s like Super Junior and SHINee‘s past attempt to release a “Japanese version” of their albums have landed them somewhere in the Top 10 but never the Top 3.

So far this year U-Kiss & Girls’ Generation have been the only artists to debut high on the Daily charts this year.

At this rate it seems 2011 might be the year a “Japanese version” will be finally be able to debut at no.1 on the charts!

ZIA’s “Winter Tears Are Falling”

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:47 PM PST

Vocalist artist ZIA is back with the release of her 4th mini album “Winter Tears Are Falling”.

Releasing her 3rd mini album “Difference” only 4 months ago back in August, ZIA certainly proves her dedication to releasing new material, just in time for the holiday “ballad” spirit.

ZIA, who debuted in 2007, has achieved wide success in her career despite being a “faceless singer” by  not appearing in any music show, variety show, and even her own music videos.

In August 2008, ZIA finally revealed herself to the world on Music Core and since then, things have only gotten better for the artist.

Songs like “Laughter” and her duet track with ballad group 4MEN “Crying, Crying” were big sellers on the charts this year, and even ranked on the Yearly Charts for many sites.

Check out ZIA‘s newest album “Winter Tears Are Falling” + the MV of the main track “Don’t Go” below.

“Don’t Go”

“If I Have a Lot of Money”

“Why Do I Have to Be Hurt”

“Crying, Crying” ft. 4Men

What do you guys think of ZIA‘s new album? Is it a hit for this holiday season, or do the tracks just not stick with you?

With so many kpop groups, who will be the next big thing overseas?

After a successful year for female  K-pop groups  in Japan, Japanese newspaper Nikkan Sports announced their picks for the next hot group debut in the land of the rising sun.

With Girls Generation and KARA leading the way, the top 3 picks (in order) for 2011 are 2NE1, f(x), and Miss A.

When commenting on their choice to pick 2NE1 as the no.1 group, Nikkan Sports revealed that Big Bang‘s success in Japan by being named the best new artist last year last and “Best Song” this year, similar expectations will be placed on fellow YG family members, 2NE1.

2NE1, who hasn’t even debuted yet in Japan, has gained attention for  their 1st album “Can’t Nobody” when the release date was pushed back due to high demand. The girls have also scored a contract with Japanese entertainment giant, Avex Entertainment.

Similarly, f(x) who debuted only last year,  will also debut under the Avex label sometime in 2011, as the group prepares to follow the steps of BoA and duo Dong Bang Shin Ki.

Miss A known for their multinational background and extensive training as dancers, under JYP Entertainment‘s wings plan on pushing their limits further by next year as they embark into the Japanese market following 2PM‘s steps.
