Posted: 14 Dec 2010 05:22 AM PST …And girlfriday gets on plane. Gong Yoo (Finding Kim Jong-wook, Coffee Prince) has decided to start the holiday season off the right way, by giving out hugs to fans. Really, there’s pretty much nothing better you could get me for Christmas. Hugs? From cutie? I’m there! The event, called Hug Day, is a chance for Gong Yoo to sneak up on a theater full of fans (who are watching his latest movie Finding Kim Jong-wook, natch) and surprise them with hugs. He’s done surprise individual meet-and-greets at theaters already, as a show of appreciation for all the warm responses he’s getting for the film. But this time, there will be HUGS. The event will take place today, at a theater in Seoul. Curses, Universe, for your space-time continuum and your insistence on shackling us with it. Oh well. On to Plan B: body swap with teddy bear. Mary Stayed Out All Night: Episode 10 Posted: 13 Dec 2010 09:45 PM PST Episode 10 is vintage Mary: Some incredibly adorable scenes between Mary and Mu-gyul, who do puppy love like nobody’s business, and some repetitive plot conflicts that go around in circles. But no matter, since this may be our last time seeing this kind of storytelling style, since the writer change kicks in with the 11th episode. I’m not holding my breath for a major shift, but it will be interesting to spot the differences, if any. Kim Nam-joo and Park Shi-hoo’s romantic winter date Posted: 13 Dec 2010 06:05 PM PST Speaking of Queen of Reversals…. New photos are out featuring the two leads (that would be Kim Nam-joo and Park Shi-hoo) in full romance mode. Some of these scenes, such as the ones outdoors in the snow, will be seen in an upcoming episode (Tuesday’s). (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 32 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Athena bursts onto scene with 22.8% premiere Posted: 13 Dec 2010 02:38 PM PST SBS’s new spy drama Athena: Goddess of War is off to a fantastic start, bringing in an impressive 22.8% rating from the first episode. That’s comparable to IRIS‘s first numbers (24.5%), and sets itself up for a nice run. (To be sure, initial first numbers are not a guarantee of continued success; Runaway Plan B is one such example where the premiere was a hit — 20.7% — but the series slid gradually with every episode until it settled around 10%-11%. However, most dramas that start strong tend to finish even stronger. Refer to Dong Yi, Daemul, Baker King Kim Tak-gu, and Giant for a few recent examples.) Meanwhile, MBC’s Queen of Reversals recorded a 14.5%, which is an improvement but not quite high enough to meet the 17% prerequisite stated by MBC to merit an extension. Looks like tomorrow’s ratings battle will be the deciding factor. Over on KBS, Mary Stayed Out All Night aired two episodes on Monday (to make up for losing one airing due to a pre-emption), and brought in a 6.1% for its 10th episode (which aired against the other two shows) and an 8.4% for its 11th (which aired afterward, its numbers rising after the competition had wrapped for the night). Note: Athena recaps are in the works, though not by me. Stay tuned! Via HeraldM RELATED POSTS

Queen of Reversals’ future still in limbo Posted: 13 Dec 2010 10:05 AM PST Queen of Reversals is STILL not sure if it’s going to extend the drama, and MBC has announced that it will base its decision on the ratings performance of this week’s episodes. The series was originally scheduled for 20 episodes, then announced that it would add 2 episodes, then followed that with an announcement of a potential 10-episode extension on top of that. I can’t believe they are deciding about the future of the show when this week’s episodes are the drama’s 17th and 18th. This latest information was provided by a senior executive with MBC’s drama department, who stated, “For the extension to be decided, Queen of Reversals‘ 17th and 18th episodes will have to have viewership ratings of more than 17%.” Too bad it has only been averaging 11%-12% in the ratings thus far. MBC is either being VERY hopeful about a drastic upswing now that SBS’s Giant is over, or it’s giving the drama a half-assed chance to “prove itself” this late in the game. Are they forgetting that Athena premieres this week?? Plus, MBC still hasn’t decided which drama will follow Queen of Housewives, which makes them seem rather precipitate for dropping Birdie Buddy without a concrete plan. The next show would fill the gap until the upcoming anticipated drama The Duo (aka 짝패), whose production has undergone some delays, is ready to air. Talk about cutting it close. And you wonder why you have no hits anymore, MBC? Via E Daily RELATED POSTS
