Lee Sang-woo joins Believe in Love

Posted: 12 Dec 2010 05:37 AM PST

Lee Sang-woo (Life Is Beautiful, Penthouse Elephant) just wrapped on the set of the family drama Life Is Beautiful as one half of the most talked about onscreen couple in a long time–a loving, healthy gay couple, opposite Song Chang-eui. He’s going from one family drama to the next, as he joins the set of the upcoming weekend family drama Believe in Love, produced by the PD-writer team of Sons of Sol Pharmacy.

Lee will be playing a second-generation chaebol with a lot of pain in his past. Oh, THAT’s new. I don’t know why in k-dramas a dude can’t just play a dude. He’s gotta own fleets of cars and museums and be the illegitimate son of some egomaniacal crazy daddy who plans to take over the world. Via baking. Or what have you.

His character will fall for Park Joo-mi, who happens to be MARRIED, to Lee Jae-ryong‘s character. He’ll know that she’s married, but continue to love her anyway. Hm. On paper this seems like an instantly hateable character, but then, Park Shi-hoo is playing exactly the same type in Queen of Reversals currently, and I find him completely endearing and in no way evil. Just sweet and naive. So there’s potential for Lee Sang-woo to keep this character upbeat and likeable. It helps that he’s also a cutie patootie.

Lee said, “I’ve played a love relationship with married women before in lots of dramas, so I think I can do this role with some subtlety.” Ha. Haha. That’s both funny AND depressing, if you think about it. Heh.

Believe in Love premieres January 1, following Marry me, on KBS.

Secret Garden: Episode 9

Posted: 11 Dec 2010 11:30 PM PST

With our leads back to “normal,” Episode 9 turns back to the romantic developments and dials down the wacky, which I suppose is necessary though I’ll admit to missing the zany physical comedy of the past few episodes, because some of those body-switch bits were truly hysterical. True, they were sometimes played more for the laugh than for character consistency, but when that gives us Hyun Bin demonstrating how to wear a bra, or Ha Ji-won smirking like a smug rich bastard, I’m game to go along for the ride.

Lee Na-young wraps drama, turns to film

Posted: 11 Dec 2010 12:24 PM PST

Fresh off her latest drama, action-comedy Runaway Plan B, actress Lee Na-young is turning to the big screen for her next role. Though contracts haven’t been signed yet, reports indicate that she will likely be acting next in the movie Howling, starring opposite the ubiquitous Song Kang-ho (Blue Salt, Secret Reunion, Thirst).

A source with Howling’s production stated that the movie is prepping for a 2011 release and that after contacting a handful of actresses, Lee is their top contender for the role. A rep from Lee’s management company confirmed that she had received the script and is considering the project favorably.

In Howling, an animal that is bred to be a wolf-dog hybrid is used to track down killers in murder cases. Lee Na-young’s role is of a newbie cop, who works with veteran cop Song Kang-ho.

(Okay, I get that if you’re going to cast Lee Na-young and Song Kang-ho together, it makes sense that she’s the rookie and he’s the vet. But what is with the glut of movies/dramas relying on this overused dynamic, pairing female newbs with grizzled male vets? Just once, can’t we have the reverse? Just imagine the hilarity of making Song the newbie and Lee the old soul. Or, if that goes against the intended tone too much, pair an older actress with a younger hotshot. How ’bout something for us noonas out there?)
