Mary Stayed Out All Night replaces writer Posted: 10 Dec 2010 05:22 AM PST Looks like drama in K-dramaland. KBS’s Monday-Tuesday drama Mary Stayed Out All Night, starring Jang Geun-seok and Moon Geun-young, has announced the departure of its screenwriter, In Eun-ah (Goong, Love and Marriage, Hon). She’s reportedly left the production of her own accord, and will be replaced by new head writer Go Bong-hwang (18 vs. 29, Nice Girl Baek Il-hong). The announcement comes on the heels of Mary‘s lowest ratings yet: it dipped down to 5.7% this week, up against heavy hitter Giant‘s finale. While it might be too late to save this sinking ship, perhaps it makes sense that if there was ever a time to make the switch, it’s now. Maybe with Giant gone and some new blood in the writers’ room, the production is hoping against hope for a ratings revival in its last leg. The changeover was initially suppressed when rumors of on-set discord surfaced, but it’s now been confirmed that writer In Eun-ah has decided to leave. Just how much of that decision was really up to her is of course anybody’s guess. The drama isn’t exactly what you would call well-executed, given the potential it had with its cast. It really kind of pains me to think of how awesome it could have been, if the writing had been sharper. Suffice it to say, I’m not surprised that the writer was blamed, but I AM surprised that they’re risking the change this late in the game. I guess we’ll just have to tune in to see what happens to the story, once the dust settles. Go Bong-hwang has taken over the script starting with Episode 11, which airs Monday December 13, along with Episode 10. Via Star News RELATED POSTS

2010 Beanie Awards: Vote for your favorite dramas of the year Posted: 09 Dec 2010 08:26 PM PST It’s December, and you know what that means around these parts: Time to reflect on the past year and see how the dramas stacked up! And boy, were there a lot of them. As in previous years, I am planning a multi-part series (with special guest bloggers, natch!) to wrap up the year, which we’re busily writing up now — keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks! If you want a refresher on how previous years have gone, here’s this handy tag to take you right to them. But before we tell you what we thought about the dramas of 2010, this is YOUR turn to weigh in and vote for your favorite shows, couples, bromances — and, yes, your big disappointments — in what we’re calling the Beanie Awards. They’re in your hands; give ‘em out with care! (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 257 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Jung Seok-won’s new movie and photo shoot Posted: 09 Dec 2010 03:42 PM PST The real romance in Dr. Champ wasn’t a romance at all; it was a bromance, between the adorable pair of Olympic judo athletes, Ji-heon and Sang-bong, lifetime rivals and bestest friends. It probably didn’t hurt that they were also rivals in the hotness department, as is um…clearly evident. Jung Seok-won, former Seoul Action School stuntman and bit player is moving up in the world, with a photo spread and a new film due out next year. The photo above makes me involuntarily fluttery. Also, I want that jacket. If he happened to come with said jacket, I wouldn’t complain. Just, you know, in case you were wondering what to get me for Christmas. Park Shin-yang and Eom Ji-won’s late-night date Posted: 09 Dec 2010 10:36 AM PST Aw, look at the happy, cute couple, before they presumably suffer an acrimonious split and end up hardened versions of themselves when they re-meet a few years later as antagonists in both the professional and personal realm. At least, that’s the setup I get from the descriptions of SBS’s Sign, the medical investigation drama set to air next month. These photos show the “hidden past” between Park Shin-yang and Eom Ji-won‘s characters, taking the couple on a late-night date on the Namsan cable cars and at Namsan Tower, which are popular date spots. Her character is particularly touched because she’d pegged her boyfriend for the silent type, and is surprised by the special pains he takes in planning their romantic date.
