Lee Jung-jae to reprise Housemaid role Posted: 02 Dec 2010 05:25 AM PST Lee Jung-jae has just signed on to star in The Housemaid: The Male Edition. Would that be The Butler? Or The Houseboy? ‘Cause that would be So. Awesome. I guess no one wants to let a good thing go. The Housemaid was a hit at Cannes this past year, not winning many prizes, but garnering lots of attention for its salacious take on the thriller genre, and its two stars, Lee Jung-jae and Jeon Do-yeon. It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl: Episodes 2-3 Posted: 01 Dec 2010 08:36 PM PST With this week’s episodes completing the introductory, premise-establishing phase of new SBS drama It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl, I feel like I can now make a judgment call, when I’d been holding off after last week’s broadcast of Episode 1 — I’d felt the story was still incomplete because of the pre-emption of Episode 2 and wanted to hold off. These new episodes essentially confirmed my initial impressions — that the drama is pretty flawed and at points feels tired, but is sustained by its tight relationships and some heartfelt (and heart-tugging) acting. I don’t think it’s nearly as strong as its timeslot predecessor Dr. Champ, but it does fall into line with the one before that, I Am Legend, in terms of tone and similar set of strengths/weaknesses. The good: Solid acting and lots of conflict built into the premise. The not-so-good: Stock baddies and ho-hum directing don’t elevate the overall work into being more than the sum of its parts. I don’t think I’ll continue recaps though I intend to keep watching, because there are a few characters I’m really liking. And thankfully, two of those are our leads, Moon Chae-won and Choi Jin-hyuk. Kim Myung-min plays Joseon’s Great (mustachioed) Detective Posted: 01 Dec 2010 04:29 PM PST The first poster is out for Kim Myung-min‘s upcoming mystery historical movie, which has undergone a slight title change to Joseon’s Great Detective: Secret of the Wolfsbane. And while I’m not a fan of the mustache on my leading men — or its tawdry cousin, the pornstache — you’ve gotta give them credit for going for the comic factor. Lulz. This project isn’t described as a comedy (it’s a suspense mystery), but this gives me hope that we can expect a dash of humor, which is an idea I can get fully behind. Although Kim is known for his powerful, commanding roles — whether playing a cold, ambitious doctor in White Tower, a sneering orchestra conductor in Beethoven’s Virus, or a man dying of ALS in My Love By My Side — he also has a wonderful sense of humor and comic timing. (If you haven’t seen him playing a hilarious, dense, brawns-before-brains type of ex-gangster in Bad Family, I highly recommend it.) The movie takes place in the 17th year of Joseon’s King Jeong-jo, and brings in Kim, playing the top detective of the day, to investigate a series of murders. Although his character had initially been a version of Jung Yak-yong, a real-life historical figure who was the subject of a mystery-sageuk cable drama two years ago, the description has been changed and he now plays a character named simply Kim Jin. The film, which is based on a historical novel titled Secret of the Gate of Virtue, is set for a January 27 release. It co-stars Han Ji-min (Cain and Abel) and Oh Dal-soo (The Good, The Bad, The Weird). Via Seoul.co.kr RELATED POSTS

Gong Yoo nearly splits his pants for High Cut Posted: 01 Dec 2010 11:56 AM PST Gong Yoo (Finding Kim Jong-wook, Coffee Prince) poses for a spread (snerk) in High Cut, in a theme that’s somewhere between “WTF you lookin’ at?” and “I’ve got a surprise for you in my pants.” You think I’m joking. But I’m not. So…we’re going with Surly Bad Boy, are we? That’s fine, all rumpled hair and silly socks. But why in every picture are you trying to split your pants? Is it a comment? Not that I don’t respect a man who leads with his crotch, but you’re making it really hard to look elsewhere. I get it. You’re proud. That’s nice for you. Nearing its finish, Giant hits ratings high Posted: 01 Dec 2010 07:37 AM PST SBS’s Giant continues to perform extremely well in the ratings on Mondays and Tuesdays, particularly as it heads to its finish next week. The Tuesday (November 30) episode recorded its highest numbers yet with a 32.7% rating. Giant has performed solidly through its entire run, although for most of the time it had to contend with another strong competitor in the form of MBC’s historical series Dong Yi, with KBS struggling to claim some ground with series like My Country Calls, Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child, and Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Once Dong Yi moved out of the way, Giant has been able to increase upon its low-twenties ratings and surpass 30%.
