Baseball movie Glove releases to strong box office numbers Posted: 22 Jan 2011 05:00 AM PST The baseball film Glove released this week and enjoyed the top spot at the box office, setting itself up for a strong theatrical run. And looking at the trailer and description, I can add yet another film to my growing list of MUST SEE NOWs. Glove, which is based on a true story, unfolds around the neglected baseball team at a high school for the deaf. Jung Jae-young (Moss, Castaway on the Moon) plays a former pro ball player who comes to the school and takes on the challenge of coaching them to #1. Glove opened on Thursday and beat out the second-place finisher by nearly double, which was Hollywood animated feature Megamind, last week’s No. 1. In third place was Cha Tae-hyun’s comedy Hello Ghost, while fourth and fifth were Hollywood films Love & Other Drugs and Season of the Witch. Within its first two days, Glove has drawn more than 160,000 admittances. (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2011. | Permalink | No comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Posted: 21 Jan 2011 08:30 PM PST …and not just from his drama-loving noonas. (Although that’s a gimme, isn’t it? The boy is adorable. And talented. Also hot.) Kim Soo-hyun is currently off being awesome in his drama series Dream High, the totally-not-that-bad-at-all-and-in-fact-kind-if-starting-to-rock high school series on KBS that stars him as a musically gifted student at an idol-cultivating In the 2011 Asia Model Awards on January 21, he was also the winner for its CF Model category and is being called a “twentysomething icon” in the CF world. I’d say he’s not a bad twentysomething icon in the regular world, either. Dream High is noteworthy in that a large portion of its main cast consists of pretty idol faces, which is risky move given the frequently negative evaluations of idols in acting roles. I’d say the idols are hanging in there, acting-wise (the performances range from shaky to fairly decent), but I’m thankful that they did cast one serious actor — even if he hardly looks serious at all when he’s oh-so-hilariously busting out the dance moves and singing in his goofy way. Oh, Sam-dong. Never change. Via Now News RELATED POSTS

Royal Family finalizes its leads Posted: 21 Jan 2011 05:12 PM PST MBC’s upcoming drama Royal Family has cast its lead actors, pairing Yeom Jung-ah (Jeon Woo Chi) with Ji Sung (Kim Suro, Swallow the Sun). The drama had previously teased the possibility of casting Lee Mi-yeon as the lead, but went with Yeom instead. Yeom is an actress I haven’t seen much, but I think I like this casting better; she had a role in the fantasy-action flick Jeon Woo Chi and the 2008 drama Working Mom, but I remember her most strongly from the fascinating psychological thriller Tale of Two Sisters, where she was superb. (Trivia! She played Im Soo-jung’s stepmother there, then teamed with her in Jeon Woo Chi to play her rival.) (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2011. | Permalink | 17 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Actresses captured pre-red carpet in Allure Posted: 21 Jan 2011 11:06 AM PST Allure had the foresight to photograph a slew of actresses while they were getting ready for the end-of-year awards ceremonies, and they’ll be featured in an upcoming spread entitled “One Hour Before the Red Carpet.” I love moments like the one captured above, of Song Ji-hyo (Goong, Serious Crime Squad), which shows her goofy side, made popular this past year by her gregarious turn in variety programs like Running Man. Kim So-yeon (Dr. Champ, Prosecutor Princess) looks RIDICULOUSLY stunning, as per usual. This woman has never met a red carpet dress she didn’t rock. It actually makes me laugh to think of all the crazy outfits she wore in Prosecutor Princess, when could have looked like this. Some actresses look better in everyday wear, while others, like Kim So-yeon, should really just spend all her days in red carpet gowns. Hell, I would, if I were her.
