The recent announcement made by NH Media regarding U-KISS' debut in the US have brought forth debates on whether the boys will be sucessful in the US or not. Supporters and critics from both sides gathered to disprove each other's theories and comments.
Recently, in an exchange of email with Uncle A, better known as Anthony Eusebio (U-KISS Alexander's dad) answered a few questions for us regarding their debut in the US.

Q: A lot of fans are concerned about U-KISS' success in the US, what are your thoughts about U-KISS debuting in the States?

Uncle A: Thank you for giving me an opportunity to place some positive comments on the U-KISS Boys.
First of all, I want to let you know that Alexander joined the showbiz not only due to his interest in K-pop, but also as a desire to bring people within the entertainers/artisans field to know God more and to be the light in the darkness in this field, because many people have negative impressions on the entertainemt field. Do you know that Korea have the highest rate of entertainers' suicides in the world?Kevin, who had joined this field a few years earlier, had the same vision. So together with the other Boys, they know very well that they are not only a K-pop Boys Group, but more importantly, as a mission to birng peace, joy, happiness, hope, and unity in reaching out to more people around the world. Many KissMe's knew that too.

Now, whether or not U-KISS will be successful in the USA or not is not the main issue, more importantly is that they are there to meet the US KissMe's (KissMe is the name for the fans of U-KISS' and their official fanclub name) as they had promised to all their fans around the world that they will try their best to meet them. NHM had carefully planned with the local promoters, and more over with their faith, they will just follow wherever God is leading them. They are not there to dig gold, they are there to meet their KissMe's family members, but of course, it will be a bonus if they could be recognize by the local music industry, especially to many people, who have not heard of U-KISS before.

In the past, there had been many unfavourable comments wherever the Boys were reaching out to other places such as their concepts, their clothes, their hairstyles, or their songs, etc etc, or even their sexual orientation? However, they had survived till this date.
Let's put it this way, whether the plan is to USA or Europe or Latin America or anywhere this year, I am confident that NHM will plan very carefully, moreover, I myself, our prayer teams, and many KissMe's, will support the Boys in words of encouragements & prayers. We trust God!



Q: What do you think has made U-KISS successful up to this point?

Uncle A: I cannot say that up to this point that U-KISS had already made their success or is even successful. It is already good that they didn't give up in the first place! In fact, they are still trying their very best by working harder, practice 3 times more extra hours than other groups! They humbled themselves, learned from their mistakes & failures, tried every opportunity that they were offered without negative thoughts even knowing that it would be difficult, impossible, and never-gonna-happen. Still, because of their faith, they bite their teeth and went through with every obstacle ~ knowing that for men is impossible, but for God all things are possible with faith! Anyway, I would say honestly that they are still far from success and is aiming at that direction.
I know that up to now, I sound overly religious, but instead of placing all these with our self-centerness, we rather place ourself into God's Hands, because it's not about us, it's not about the songs - It's all about the Glory.

I apologize to you and some readers who might find my sayings uncomfortable, however, please accept the fact that I myself is a marketplace missionary apart from being a wine expert & businessman. Besides talking about God whole day, the next thing would be about wines, hehehe!

Q: U-KISS seems to be quite a unique group of entertainers, how can they be so persistent even with so many impossibilities and obstacles in front of them?

Uncle A: Yes, U-KISS is indeed a unique group. They are not afraid to go into trials because they have strong faith. They knew what lay in front of them were many obstacles & trials, but still, it was not a surprise that there were times that each of them wanted to give up! However, now they know that this is how they can only improve themselves out of those hardships ~

"If we fall, we will get up again on our feet & continue to go on and to be even stronger!"

--That was their statements that they'd shared with one & another during one of the TV's documentaries where they cried & shared their works, their families, & their lives. Finally, they believe that God is with them wherever they go & do, and will give them strength when they are weak.

In this letter, he even included a small behind-the-scenes history about U-KISS and the trials they went through being rookies with no training what-so-ever. He explained why one of the albums was named "ContiUkiss"(the original single containing "Man Man Ha Ni")


Q: Wow! It was a big risk they were taking! How did NH Media, the Boy, and your family, especially for Xander, decided it was a wise decision to have them join the entertainment business?

Uncle A: Do you know that this group was formed in late 2007-early 2008 and then debuted in the same year without having been trained or worked-out for 5 to 6 years like other groups do? NH Kim asked them, "Are you ready to take the risk for this job? You guys are just rookies & have not train for 5 to 6 years. (If you go through with the training now,) by then, you guys will be be too old for an idol group! However, if you are willing to take the risk, I will be crazy enough to go through these (risks) with you guys, even though we know that as comparing with other huge companies & groups we are weaker in many, many ways!"

Finally, the Boys agreed and then signed theirs contacts with NHM! Of course, for us, we had prayed about it, we had asked our lawyers, friends from the entertainment field, and our pastors. Finally, we trust God and let Xander to go ahead.

What I am trying to say is that, YES, they know it NOT gonna be easy. In the beginning of their careers, they were discriminated, humiliated, blamed, criticised, betrayed, etc.... but because of the strong supports from their KissMe's enduring love, loyalty, and strong encouragements, the Boys became stronger & stronger after every trial. They learned from all the mistakes & criticism; they prayed and continued working harder and harder to do their BEST for their KissMe's, so that's why we had an album called ContiUKISS!!!Many blessings,

[News] Idol star participants for “Idol Star Athletics Championship”

the upcoming MBC 'Idol Star Athletics and Swimming Championships' for the Lunar New Year Special.

The 'Idol Star Swimming and Athletics Championships' will be broadcasted as a two-day special for February 5th and 6th, and it was created after the great success of the original 'Idol Star Athletics Championships', which was aired last year during Chuseok.

The athletics championships will be recorded at the Seoul Songpa-Gu Jamsil Stadium and Gymnasium, where they will record a total of 24 races including the 100m sprints, 50m hurdle, and high jump.

Confirmed idol stars for the competition include 2PM, 2AM, TRAX, T-ara, miss A, Brown Eyed Girls, B2ST, SHINee, Son Ho Young, SECRET, SISTAR, IU, After School, Lee Hyun (of 8eight), f(x), NS Yoonji, and MBLAQ. Unfortunately, SNSD will not be able to participate due to clashing schedules with their Japanese promotions.

That being said, idol attendees for the swimming championships (held on January 30th) are yet to be confirmed. Netizens are particularly interested in After School UEE's status, as she previously expressed her wish for the addition of a swimming component.

On the 19th, Kim Yoo Gun PD stated, "UEE's participation in the athletics championship has been confirmed, however the schedule for the swimming competition is yet to be finalized. UEE's attendance in the swimming championship has not yet been decided, and it's been harder for us to come out with a decision due to the rising interest from the netizens. UEE herself feels burden by the excessive attention."

He continued, "We're cooperating with the National Athletics Federation for these championships. Foreign nations receive a lot of popularity through the World Cup or the Olympics, however for Korea, we haven't been able to expose this department even during big events. Through these Idol Athletics and Swimming championships, we'd like it if the nation's athletics and swimming fields received more interest from the general public."

[NEWS]JYJ Fans Collected 100 Million Won in 4 Days, “The Power of Fandom”

The fans of group JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu) have been involved in fund raising activities and ever since the project was launched in only 4 days the donation already surpasses 100 million won, showing the strength of the group's fandom.

JYJ fans who want to cheer for JYJ's future activities started a fund raising activity since January 14th to put ads showing their support message on the body of buses in town.

At the launch of the project, the routes and bus in target had been determined and the length of advertising line that will be placed on the bus' exterior depends on the size of the bus and will include a phrase 'We support your youth' as well as names of the three members.

The fund raising account is jointly managed by JYJ Fan Coalition, they also published two scans of the project's deposit account at their official blog for transparency purpose.

Since last January 14th midnight to January 18th, the project has collected a top notch amount of 100 million won. While due to requests from overseas fans, the fund raising period was extended and finally on January 20th the amount turns to 140 million won.

Having a charity activity that creates 100 million won in only 4 days, it shows the enormous fanbase of the group that even surprised entertainment officials. Fans were planning and managing this project all by themselves, even JYJ agency official was amused to hear about this news.

JYJ fans have also prepared to broadcast their own internet broadcasting station. Due to conflict with the group's former agency (SM Entertainment) that disrupt all JYJ's promotional activities, this action was taken to fight back as fans present a private broadcaster dedicated to specially air JYJ's songs. Another fans' bus ad project is currently in progress, and will be launched on March 3rd.

[News] BEAST holds a charity concert for leukemia patients

Chicken franchise 'BBQ' is hosting a 'BBQ-Beast Mini-concert' on January 26th at AX Korea, in Gwangjang-dong in Seoul, inviting 2000 of their customers. The concert will be around 2 hours long starting in the afternoon. Before the concert, there will also be a charity auction, auctioning off BEAST items, to help children diagnosed with leukemia.

Along with an entry slip provided by BBQ with any purchase, if fans leave a message on their homepage stating 'Why using extra virgin olive oil and 100% homegrown chicken makes BBQ chicken good,' they will have entered for an invitation to the event.

Out of all the people who have entered, 2000 lucky people will have a chance to see the concert. Entries will be accepted until January 20th, and winners will be announced on the 22nd. Getting the chance to not only go to a BEAST concert but also to go to an auction with Beast items is very rare so for BEAST fans, obtaining tickets is an intense competition. Because of this, BBQ sales and homepage visitors are increasing every day.

The head of BBQ's marketing team, Choi Moonhyung explained, "Because customers can eat delicious BBQ chicken and have the chance to see BEAST, thereby killing two birds with one stone, the response of the customers has been feverish. So far there has been as many as 56,000 entries."

[News] SHINee Jonghyun undergo a surgery on the 17th

SHINee's Jonghyun previously injured his left ankle on October of 2010, after the group was rushed by fans at the Jakarta airport upon their arrival. Although he thought it was okay, further examinations showed that he required surgery.

A representative of SM Entertainment explained via Star News that "Jonghyun received surgery on the 17th" and "He's currently in good condition."

No worries, Jonghyun's sugery is a success & he is resting well now, he would recover soon and join SHINee as a 5 member group. For the meanwhile, SHINee would be performing as a 4 member group until Jonghyun recovers.

Super Junior's Kim hee Chul has revealed that he has re-signed with his management company.

On the 19th, Kim Hee Chul revealed through MBC's Golden Fisher, "Not long ago I re-signed my contract with my company." To which Kim Gu Ra responded with, "Is that good news?" Yoon Jong Shin added, "It means he got a lump sum of cash. A lump sum."

To target U.S market, they refined their dance and song. Their 3 floor building office at JYP New York is made up of practice room and recording studio. More than 10 employees are working with them. The girls became busy since entering the US Billboard singles chart at number 76 in 2009. Also the amount of US fans visits them on their US headquarters. 

Woo-Suk Lee, JYP Vice President of the company has been preapring to enter the US since 2003, he and Jinyoung Park are old partners with the young representative. VP Lee graduated from Berklee College of Music. He is notable for his participations on Wondergirls songs like Nobody, and Tell Me. These days, moving between NewYork and LA. He is now focusing on preparing Wondergirls new album. WonderGirls debuted in the US a year and 7 months ago. Climbing on top of Billboard singles chart, number 76 on billboard 100. However, he said, "Until now, the game was just practise. Wonder Girls will begin authentic US debut this year"

Q: Wonder Girls in the United States was successful. Why?
A: Because US did not follow the style of music. Asians, however, they can mimic an American singer and can't be the same. WonderGirls have their own oriental charm to emphasize. Not Americanized.

Q: If there were biggest barriers?
A: Somehow language. Language is not just a word. Culture because it takes time to learn. In Wondergirls's case, they learn and adapt it as a lifestyle (ie english speaking and acting classes).

Q: Wonder Girls new tracks will be assessed by some? 
A: So far i think that we haven't played the game yet. Wondergirls EP album, had 3-4 songs. Before that they've only a single album(2DT). In this album, there will be 6-7 songs. Also, Rodney Jerkins, Claude Kelly famous U.S musicians/composer will be participating in this album.

Q: The most different thing that happened during the last 7 years? (In the US)
A: They are now curious about South Korean singers. At that time, i had difficulties engaging with record companies as they weren't really that welcoming of Asian artist. But it's slowly improving. WonderGirls EP album will be released by one of three major record labels here in the US.

Q: Reason why US is noticing KPOP?
A: US music market is saturated, while the Asian market is beginning to turn. They know that South Korea covers the whole Asian market.

Q: Nowadays you can easily be known in the US with Youtube.
A: Youtube is a mere adjunct. But with this we can use it as a connection to a wider audience.

Last 19th on the GomTV's reality program 'Making The Artist' Teen Top's members fresh barefaces was revealed.

Especially for Ricky who had a baby skin and a mily-white bareface, when seeing the comparison with his strong image on stage the netizens stated "He looks innocent", "With the heavy make-up I didn't know it, he's a baby-dol", "it's prettier than a woman's skin".

SHINee will receive an award at the 6th Asia Model Festival Awards to be held at JW Marriot Hotel in Seoul on Jan. 21.

The Asia Model Festival Awards, hosted by Korea Model Association, is a cultural event to discover new models and award outstanding models and stars who contributed to advancing culture and arts through various activities in Asia every year.

The awards was inaugurated in 2006, and Korea, Japan, and China started to participate in 2007, followed by Philippines and Uzbekistan in 2008, Thailand, Mongol, Singapore, Taiwan, and India in 2009. It is now recognized as the only prestigious awards in Asia.
