Union reaches settlement with MBC Posted: 06 Sep 2010 03:06 AM PDT After a hairy several days, the union of broadcasting professionals has come to a settlement with MBC. The two sides spent the weekend in some frustrated talks regarding the union strike over unpaid drama wages, and for a brief while they were stuck at an impasse. Thankfully, on September 6 they concluded their negotiations and dramas can now resume filming. KBS and SBS came to settlements with the union quickly enough to avoid having any of their dramas stopped. MBC took nearly a week longer, as it had much more outstanding payments than the other two stations; its total came to over 2 billion won (about $1.6 million). As a result, three of its dramas encountered production interruptions when its cast members refused to participate in shoots, per the union’s decision. Rebroadcast ratings rise slightly for Sungkyunkwan, Playful Kiss Posted: 05 Sep 2010 08:13 PM PDT Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Playful Kiss both premiered last week to lower-than-expected ratings. Both were highly anticipated dramas starring idols with big fanbases, so it came as a disappointment when both were dealt low single-digit ratings. Weekend rebroadcast numbers have come out, and both dramas put in respectable showings in the reruns — not outstanding, but solid. Sungkyunkwan‘s original broadcast brought in 6.3% ratings for both its episodes, and the reruns drew a 5.3% and a 7.1%. Posted: 05 Sep 2010 06:05 PM PDT And we’re back to the plot heavy episodes. There is less movement on the band front, and more on the drama front. I knew I was getting spoiled with the moments in episode 9! Episode 10 marks the appearance of Jun Seol Hee – the Korean Erin Brockovich. Jung Woo-sung in Reign of Assassins Posted: 05 Sep 2010 03:20 PM PDT Stills, posters, and trailers are out for Jung Woo-sung‘s new film Reign of Assassins, the swordplay epic produced by legendary Hong Kong director John Woo. The international co-production is headed up by John Woo and Terence Chang, long-time producing partner to Woo, and the heavyweight behind Mission: Impossible II, Face/Off, and Hard-Boiled, just to name a few. Let’s just say, these two? They’re not messing around. (...) © girlfriday for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 29 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Goodbye beast men, hello candy men? Posted: 05 Sep 2010 11:24 AM PDT Are choco abs a thing of the past? Probably not, but there does seem to be a new wave of heroes making a comeback, and sweeping the ‘Beast Men’ under the rug. For a while now, the so-called Beast Men have cropped up and taken center stage, as a reaction against the ‘Flower Pretty Boy’ trend that piqued with dramas like Coffee Prince and made metrosexual pretty boys a pan-Asian phenomenon. But it looks like the pretty boys are making a comeback, this time in the guise of ‘Candy Men,’ as in the cartoon, Candy. To be more specific, they’re being described as ‘Terius Men,’ named for Candy‘s leading male character, the ever-so-pretty boy of flowing locks and perfect complexion.
