| Seo Shin-ae’s Drama Special episode Posted: 23 Sep 2010 06:31 AM PDT One of my favorite child actors, Seo Shin-ae (Thank You, Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child) will be appearing in another of KBS’s Drama Special episodes. Her segment is called Boy Meets Girl, and she’ll play a science genius who is admitted to a science high school at the age of 12. Her Ji-wan character doesn’t know how to do anything other than study, and because of her ambitious mother, Ji-wan is “locked into her studies under the name of gifted special education” despite her young age. She begins to mature as she meets an untalented middle-aged man. Sounds like a meaty role for a gifted young actress. The Boy Meets Girl episode of Drama Special will air on October 2. | Posted: 22 Sep 2010 09:41 PM PDT This episode had more than one plotline going on, but there was a general arc to the emotional progressions, so overall I was happy with it. I’m liking the characters more and more, and although He-ra is in the role of the hateful romance-spoiler, Lee Shi-young is playing her with this interesting mix of confidence, softness, and bitchery that makes me like her. | With no competition, Playful Kiss improves its ratings Posted: 22 Sep 2010 04:04 PM PDT Playful Kiss finally rose out of the 3% range for its seventh episode today, upticking to 6.3%. In that it more than doubled its ratings from its last episode, 2.8%, that’s good news. But a few caveats come therewith: Perhaps it’s a hollow victory because it had no scripted programming competition, with SBS and KBS both broadcasting Chuseok specials instead of new drama episodes. Filling in the slot recently vacated by Baker King Kim Tak-gu, KBS aired the Kang Dong-won/Song Kang-ho thriller movie Secret Reunion (a 12.5% rating). SBS aired the tsunami blockbuster Haeundae (13.6%) instead of My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho. I was expecting a bigger increase from Playful Kiss, frankly, because no rival dramas meant that the combined 57% of viewership that watched the other two dramas last week were free to switch channels this week. | Sungkyunkwan Scandal: Episode 5 Posted: 22 Sep 2010 12:02 PM PDT If the first two episodes were ruled by the ever charming and forever bored Gu Yong-ha, then episodes 3-6 were completely dominated by Moon Jae-shin aka Guh-ro. His bad boy/good boy persona has most fangirls swooning, including me! Not to take away from Yong-ha, who is just as cute and charming as always, but I think the mystery that enshrouds Guh-ro and his political/personal angst has won most of us over. Not to mention, how cute is his hiccupping problem? And the bromance between Yong-ha and Guh-ro? Sigh. I'd also like to give Micky Yoochun honorable mention. I have to say his character is growing on me, more on why below. I hope no one thought I disliked him when I said he was my least favorite member—I still love him to death as a fan, he's just ranked #5 within the group. Enough ramble, onto the recap! PS. So sorry about the delay guys! School started last week! Eep! I’ll be able to post earlier this week now that the craziness of the first week of school is over!
