Child genius Seo Shin-ae in Drama Special Posted: 28 Sep 2010 06:15 AM PDT Seo Shin-ae has made her (albeit short) career playing precocious youngsters, so it shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for her to play a full-on genius in her upcoming Drama Special episode, titled Boy Meets Girl. Her character enters high school at the age of 12 and is forced into a rigid life centering around her education by a pushy mother. In these stills, she’s busy at the chalkboard working out a complicated problem in her classroom. (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | One comment | Add to del.icio.us |
Sungkyunkwan Scandal: Episode 7 Posted: 27 Sep 2010 08:38 PM PDT Excuse me, I've got a serious problem. Very serious indeed. I have a severe case of dry mouth. Do you know why, dear reader? Oh I think you know…I'm sure you have it too. It's because I can't seem to close my mouth during the whole hour this godforsaken drama enraptures me!!! I'm too busy squealing, smiling, drooling, gaping at the awesomeness that is Sungkyunkwan Scandal (and the beauty of the Joseon F-4. Yeah, that includes Yoon-hee. Love her!) Sorry I don't mean to be unprofessional, but I'm worried for my health—I've probably swallowed a million fruit flies without even knowing it in these past several weeks. Plus my hands are raw from clapping like a fat kid saw cake! I swear this drama is a health hazard…Sigh… Interesting tidbit: Did you know Song Joong-ki actually attended Sungkyunkwan University? He was the school promotional model for 3 years! Cool beans! Alright, enough of my psychobabble and onto the recap!!! The cast of new daily drama Smile, Dong-hae Posted: 27 Sep 2010 03:46 PM PDT
KBS’s daily drama Fine Windy Day (or Good Day For the Wind to Blow) is nearing its end, and its replacement drama will be Smile, Dong-hae [웃어라 동해야], which begins its run next week. Here’s an introduction the young up-and-comers who comprise the cast, led by Ji Chang-wook, whose casting I’m happy to see since he played such an endearing role in last year’s hit weekend drama Sons of Sol Pharmacy. (He played the timid youngest son with “sissy” interests like sewing and quilting, who ended up raising his best friend’s daughter while just 20 years old.) He followed that with a supporting role in Lee Jun-ki’s Hero, and now finds himself in his first leading role. In Smile, Dong-hae, he plays the titular character of Dong-hae, whose “beautiful but mentally deficient” mother was adopted to the U.S. and raised him as a single mom. Dong-hae moves to Korea with his mother because of the woman he loves, who then betrays him. He looks for his father, who is a total stranger to him, and in the process finds a different love and puts together a new family in this “touching story.” (...) © javabeans for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 33 comments | Add to del.icio.us |
Kim Ji-hoon up for October army enlistment Posted: 27 Sep 2010 10:41 AM PDT Nooo, not another one! Actor Kim Ji-hoon is the next up for his mandatory military service, and announced that he will begin his four weeks of training on October 4, followed by active duty. Kim is currently appearing in a cable drama, the fabulous Joseon X-Files, playing a level-headed government officer who gets recruited into a secret organization investigating strange and unexplainable cases. Thankfully, his army status has no bearing on the drama, which is just about to wrap filming on September 28. (It has currently aired six episodes of twelve, with one new episode broadcasting weekly.) Bummer — Kim has always been one of those actors for whom I think charisma/appeal has been stronger than sheer acting talent, but he was just starting to pick things up with X-Files. He has played a lot of romantic-comedy heroes in the past (cute, but unchallenging roles), and this current drama is finally giving him the opportunity to stretch a little. I’ll admit he’s still got a way to go before being a really strong actor, but he makes up for that with his personal charm and dryly humorous air. After debuting in 2002′s drama Loving You, Kim went on to act in The Great Inheritance, Golden Age of the Daughter-in-Law, Flowers For My Life, Love & Marriage, and Wish Upon a Star.
