[News] City Hunter Manga Gets Live-Action Korean TV Serie

Lee Min-Ho to star in re-imagining of action comedy, now set in Seoul in 2011

Actor Lee Min-Ho has been casted as the star of the live-action Korean television adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo's City Hunter detective action comedy manga. In the original manga, Ryo Saeba is a private eye ("sweeper") with unrivaled marksmanship and an over-the-top obsession for the opposite sex.

The new version from the television broadcaster SBS re-imagines manga's setting of Tokyo in the late 1980s as Seoul in 2011. Lee will play a former CIA operative who now works as a gun-for-hire.

In 2008, the American company Fox Television Studios signed a tentative agreement to co-produce and distribute a joint Korean-Japanese live-action adaptation of the manga, although no further developments in that effort has since been announced. Another Korean actor, Jung Woo-sung, had been previously attached to that earlier, proposed live-action version. Another Asian star, Hong Kong martial artist Jackie Chan, played Saeba in a loose 1992 live-action Hong Kong adaptation of City Hunter. Coincidentally, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment distributes this 1992 City Hunter film in North America.

The original manga had already been adapted into four television anime series, one anime movie, and several video and television specials. ADV Films released most of these anime projects in North America. Hojo has since drawn an Angel Heart spinoff to his City Hunter manga, and that manga has also been adapted into anime for television.

On that day, DBSK members Yunho and Changmin, Super Junior, SHINee, F(X), SNSD and many top stars and idols made their appearance, making the crowds go wild. SM also took the chance and signed endorsements with various China brands for SHINee and F(X) during their visit.

SHINee is the second boy group introduced by SM Entertainment following Super Junior's success, with Leader Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Taemin and Minho. In order to highlight each member's outstanding and unique character, SM Entertainment has specially chosen 5 animals to portray their individual image. Leader Onew a rabbit, Jonghyun a dog, Key a fox, Minho a cow and Taemin portrays a cat. And because 'Rabbit' Onew has a good temper, hence he is always 'bullied' by the rest.

Despite being a newcomer and performing for the very first time, the choreographers expressed that Yunho did not seem like an amateur at all, on the contrary, his charismatic presence allowed him to really make the stage his own. I hope that he'll have gained some valuable experience and growth through 'Goong'.'

2AM's Jokwon and Brown Eyed Girls' Ga-In will be acting in a new sitcom together.

Currently receiving great love and interest as the 'Adam' couple on MBC's 'We Got Married', they were recently appointed the lead roles for a new daily MBC sitcom.

An associate revealed, "Jokwon and Ga-In will be acting as twin brothers and sisters for this new production. Other actors for the show are currently being cast. However they will not be leaving 'We Got Married'. 'WGM' and this new sitcom will be filmed in parallel to each other."

Jokwon and Ga-In are set to start filming this coming October, and the first episode of the sitcom called 'Perfect Aegyo' will be broadcast on November 1st.

On Mnet 'MCountdown MDC News' they revealed where the recently known stars were born.

On the past 9th in the broadcast of MCD NEWS if you follow it, Busan is the place where most of the stars were born. Supreme Team's Simon D, CNBlue's Jung Yong Hwa, After School's Lizzy but also 2NE1′s Sandara Park and MBLAQ's Thunder who have grown up in the Philippines are also from Busan.

A lot of stars also came from Gwangjoo like Busan: DBSK's U-Know Yunho, Big Bang's Seungri, KARA's Goo Hara, 2NE1′s Gong Minzy etc… Seungri was especially known in his place before debut for his dancing skills.

Singer and TV-show host MC Mong, 31, Monday denied allegations that he had healthy teeth extracted in order to dodge mandatory military service.

His denial came after the police's decision to book him without physical detention based on that charge.

Posting a letter on his homepage, he said he was exempted from military service due to an abnormal dental structure, claiming he had never intentionally had healthy teeth removed.

``I have never, ever, had a normal tooth pulled to avoid the military. I suffered excruciating pain because of unhealthy teeth. I had to get rid of them,'' he said.

The singer, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, said he has occasionally made minor mistakes in front of his fans as an entertainer.

``But I have not lived an immoral life. I have never abandoned my principles.''
He also said he was born with bad teeth, adding he was not able to receive proper treatment when he was young because of his family's financial problems.

``I even took 10 painkillers at one time to relieve my toothache. When I finally went to a dentist, he was surprised at how bad my teeth were,'' the singer said.

MC Mong then said he made no dubious deals with the dentist to avoid going to the military, stressing he received the required treatments.

``I requested a physical reexamination and was exempted from the military service for a rightful reason," he said. "I am so heartbroken after reading viewers' comments posted on bulletin boards of my programs. I will do everything necessary to regain my good reputation for myself, my parents and those who truly believe in me.''

MC Mong's statement came two days after the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said the popular entertainer was found healthy enough for active-duty as a soldier at his first physical checkup in August 1998. But in 2008, he had 12 teeth extracted and was able to get exempted from military duty.

The police said the singer is suspected of having extracted at least four of them to weaken his dental function and ultimately for exemption from military service.
They also said he had postponed entering the military service seven times from 1999 to 2006 by providing various illegitimate excuses.

MC Mong is currently appearing in ``1 Night 2 Days'' on KBS and ``Haha Mong Show'' on SBS. Following his draft dodging allegation, many viewers requested the broadcasters expel him from the programs.

KBS largely edited out scenes in which MC Mong appeared on Sunday evening. But SBS ran the Haha Mong Show as scheduled on Sunday morning, inviting harsh criticism from viewers.

Its homepage was inundated with comments slamming the broadcaster for the airing of the show.

Meanwhile, Rep. Kim Hak-song of the governing Grand National Party (GNP) said Monday that the Military Manpower Administration has strengthened its screening of those who have been exempted from active military duty or assigned to an alternative service program, because of bad teeth.

``The administration sent an official notice to its district offices across the country on Feb. 17, ordering them to tighten the physical checkup on draftees with bad teeth not to illegitimately exempt them from military service,'' Kim said.

The Feb. 17 date marks the day right after the police were tipped off on MC Mong's possible draft dodging and began investigating the allegation.

Top Korean actress Moon Geun-young has decided to join the main cast of an upcoming KBS TV series also starring actor Jang Keun-suk, according to the show's promoter Ytree;media on Monday.

Ytree announced through a press release that the 23-year-old starlet will take on the role of the shameless and optimistic Mary in the drama based on comic "Mary is Out of Night" by famed cartoon writer Won Soo-yeon.

"Mary" will be a romantic comedy which revolves around Mary who makes realizations about love and herself while being in two fake marriages for 100 days -- to Moo-kyul, a hippie and Indie band lead vocalist who has nothing, and Jung-in, a man who has everything including the brains, looks and wealth.

"'Mary' is brilliant in terms of its material and plot but is also fun and appealing because of its unique characters," Moon said. "I feel pressured because simulated marriage is a topic which has never been handled in dramas before but I'm also excited and nervous about how I'll show it."

Just last week, Jang had confirmed he had been cast for the role of Moo-kyul in the drama set to air starting November, after series "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" ends its run.

Moon, currently starring in play "Closer" as Alice, the role of a stripper taken on by Natalie Portman in the movie version, last appeared on the popular small screen show "Sister of Cinderella" five months ago.

Moon, with already 10 years of acting experience under her belt, has appeared in numerous films and dramas including "Autumn Tale" and "My Little Bride."

She also won the grand prize at major broadcaster SBS' year-end Acting Awards last year for her role as a talented painter in drama "The Painter of the Wind" which has received several international acclaims.

Raemong Raein, the production company of KBS drama 'SungKyunKwan Scandal', has stated that it will file a report to the Fair Trade Committee stating that the drama's O.S.T, which TVXQ's Xiah Junsu, Micky Yoochun and YoungWoong Jaejoong participated in, is currently unable to be distributed through online music sites due to a certain company's unfair corporate practices.















A representative of Raemong Raein stated, "We contacted various companies with regards to the online distribution of the O.S.T, which the three members of TVXQ participated in, but we have hit a roadblock and are unable to progress," and "We believe this may be the work of a certain company using unfair corporate practices so we are planning to report the case to the Fair Trade Committee for further investigations."

◇Why can't we listen to the TVXQ Trio's songs online?=The three members participated in the O.S.T of SungKyunKwan Scandal, the drama which Park Yoochun (Micky Yoochun's real name) is starring in, and recorded the song 'Found You'. However, this song is not available on any of the major online music sites such as 'Melon', 'Mnet', 'Dosirak' and 'Cyworld'.















This is unusual as most O.S.Ts are released with much advertisement and services as soon as the drama begins airing. Even the O.S.T of 'Playful Kiss', the MBC drama which began airing at a later date than SungKyunKwan Scandal, has already been distributed.



As Raemong Raein has been unable to find a suitable domestic distribution company, it is currently reaching out to foreign label companies.


◇Did SM have a hand in this?= Raemong Raein has pointed out the possibility of SM having a hand in the current situation. The three members are currently in a lawsuit with their agency SM Entertainment regarding their unlawful contract.

There are voices being raised now that SM is stopping the songs from being distributed through KMP Holdings, which was created by and consists of Korea's top entertainment agencies such as SM, YG and JYP Entertainment.

A representative of one of the distribution companies stated, "From what I know, the music sites aren't providing services for the O.S.T because KMP Holdings contacted them and asked them not to distribute the songs. In the process, they even stated that they would stop giving such sites rights to distribute songs from KMP Holdings singers if the O.S.T songs were released."

A representative of another company stated, "There were a lot of companies interested in distributing SungKyunKwan Scandal's O.S.T before the drama was aired but they all gave up because there were fears that they may be hurt by releasing the songs."

The Fair Trade Committee has stated that it is willing to take on the case as soon as Raemong Raein files it. A top representative of the Fair Trade Committee stated, "We would have to investigate the finer details, but if a certain company is using their position in the industry to stop songs of a certain singer from being distributed, then the action will be deemed as unfair corporate practices.

On the other hand, SM is denying such speculations. A representative of SM stated, "I'm hearing all of this for the first time," and denied the accusations.

The agency said that Co-Ed's debut title song will not be a sweet song, but a song with electronic sound and strong beats.

The wall of the Shanghai Concert Venue for SM Town Live has gained the attention of many people. 

In order to give Super Junior a warm welcome, there was a 700 metre super long banner hung at the concert venue in Shanghai, China that caught the attention of many tourists. [News] TVXQ Trio Signs Model Contract With Make-Up Brand “Nature Republic"

Cosmetic brand Nature Republic will be represented by the Hallyu singer trio from TVXQ (Hero Jaejoong, Xiah Junsu & Micky Yoochun) and the one year exclusive model contract signing was revealed on 13 September.

Started in March last year, Nature Republic has been expanding their businesses aggressively, and with the TVXQ, who has great influence from Japan to the rest of Asia fronting, they will be going in a different direction of marketing activities with Korea and Hallyu customers as the target audience.

Nature Republic has been a serious competitor in the cosmetic industry, and has started on a strategy which places more emphasis on the tourists and foreign market, using the TVXQ trio. With this, they join Rain(Bi) who has been the main brand representative from the start, and have become the face of Nature Republic.

Following the recent record announcement in Japan, it was made known that the three, who have been expanding into the realm of dramas and musicals, have started on the studio photo shoot as the brand's cosmetic product model.

Nature Republic is scheduled to launch their new marketing activities featuring Rain and the TVXQ trio as early as this month, at important locations which their products are available at, that have large Hallyu tourist presence.
