Runaway poster is out

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 05:01 AM PDT

The first poster is out for KBS’s Runaway (Plan B), and it’s a battle of the cocked guns and eyebrows as everyone puts on their fiercest Blue Steels. From left to right, we have Yoon Jin-seo and Lee Jung-jin as cops, Rain and Lee Na-young as the two leads, and Daniel Henney playing a devoted protector type (aka, The Henney).

In this romantic-comedy action drama, Rain plays a private detective who is approached by Lee Na-young, who hides her true motives while acting the part of client. They get caught up in a case involving a large amount of cash that went missing in the Korean War, and are chased through Asia by the two cops.

The drama has attracted a lot of interest not only for its cast but its writer-director pair, who last led KBS to ratings gold with their blockbuster sageuk action drama Chuno. It’ll air on Wednesdays and Thursdays after Baker King Kim Tak-gu wraps.

I Am Legend: Episode 12

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 10:00 PM PDT

After the epic-ness that was the MoaE vs. Seol Hee face-off, I felt that this episode was on the boring side. There were too much Seung Hye, MoaE, and law-jingo that I was craving for more performances and more music. And yes – I am nearly bald after all the hair pulling. There was only one highlight though, which is also the song of the day:

Lee Min-ho cast in City Hunter (?) (!)

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 08:40 PM PDT

WHAT?! I won’t believe this until it’s on the air, but Lee Min-ho has reportedly been selected to headline a Korean drama adaptation of City Hunter, the popular 1980s manga and anime about a womanizing detective.

The lead character is Saeba Ryo, who runs the City Hunter business with his partner, Kaori Makimura, and is a bit of a perv. (He almost exclusively takes cases from pretty women.) He also fights crime with the help of his trusty partner (some might call her his Girl Friday [Swoon. -GF]), who secretly loves him.

I wrote about City Hunter back in 2008 when a Korean-Japanese production was being planned starring Jung Woo-sung. I’m going to guess that fell through. This version is slated for SBS and sounds like it might actually make it.

City Hunter was created by Hojo Tsukasa in 1985. There have been a few live-action adaptations attempted in the past, but none seemed to be that successful. According to one rep from the production company, the series has received numerous requests for drama adaptations, but those hadn’t come into fruition because they didn’t satisfy the creator’s requests. However, Hojo Tsuaka was reportedly satisfied with Lee Min-ho as the lead — no doubt thanks to his star-making role in last year’s uber-hit Boys Before Flowers.

The original was set against 1980s Tokyo; this version will take place in 2011 in Seoul. The Ryo character has been renamed “Kang Jin.”

OMFG. I may love this, or love to hate it. Either way, love.

Moon Geun-young confirmed for Mary Stayed Out all Night

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 07:10 PM PDT

Moon Geun-young and Jang Geun-seok in a romantic comedy together? Yeah, I’ll be watching.

Mary Stayed Out All Night is the manhwa adaptation that features Jang Geun-seok as a hippie musician, and now Moon will be signing up for a contract marriage with his character. Her Mary role is the daughter of a failed businessman and falls into a love triangle with an indie-band singer (Jang) and a perfect chaebol (as yet uncast).

Moon has been busy in her theatrical debut with the stage play Closer since August, and will jump into the drama as soon as the play wraps in October. It’ll premiere on KBS in October, airing on Mondays and Tuesdays after Sungkyunkwan Scandal wraps.

Seriously, sign me up! Moon has long been considered one of the best actresses of her generation, and she can wring emotion and intensity out of confused chaos (see: Cinderella’s Sister). She has, however, shied away from the romantic comedy genre, and I’d LOVE to see her tackle something light and fun. (Jang, as we know, is great in trendies.) The only rom-com I’ve seen her in is My Little Bride, which was AGES ago, but she was adorable in it.

Kang Ji-hwan rehearses for Cafe In’s Tokyo run

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 03:30 PM PDT

Looks like my Kang Ji-hwan is busy prepping for his upcoming musical production, Cafe In, as seen in these recently released photos from rehearsals.

The musical has been running in Seoul since August, and Kang has been acting as producer. He’ll act onstage for the Japanese run, however, which kicks off on October 16 at Tokyo’s Globe theater. It’s his first role since wrapping on the SBS drama Coffee House earlier this year.

Song Chang-eui in The Sorrows of Young Werther

Posted: 12 Sep 2010 10:53 AM PDT

Song Chang-eui (Life is Beautiful, Cinderella Man) will be playing a tragic young puppy in love for his latest project, The Sorrows of Young Werther. And the posters do look quite dramalicious. He’s been double cast with Park Gun-hyung (Kingdom of the Wind) for the lead role in the musical theater production this fall.

Song Chang-eui is no stranger to musicals, and has shown quite a versatile range in the roles he’s taken on throughout his career. Of note is his current turn as an openly gay man in SBS’s Life is Beautiful.
