Kang Dong-won sneaks in to basic training

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 04:51 AM PST

It wasn’t a secret that Kang Dong-won was planning to report for mandatory military service this month, but he did go out of his way to make his enlistment as quiet as possible on November 18.

That means that Kang bypassed the usual fan and press sendoff — which is generally a star’s last chance to be seen in the public eye for two years — and rode in to the army training grounds in a vehicle provided by the military. He arrived an hour and a half past the expected time (usually 1pm) in order to evade the press outside and keep his profile low.

Tamra the Island: Episode 13

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 08:40 PM PST

Hello angst. From the opening argument to the final tear, there is a lot of tension (and plot development) in episode 13. After our lovely reprieve in the previous episode, things for our characters are getting kind of awful. But Tamra does angst so amazingly well that I still love this episode.

Yoo Ah-in models for HAZZYS

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 05:15 PM PST

I suppose I should TRY to find something useful to say here, even though it is a Yoo Ah-in picture post, which means much squealing in glee is sure to ensue. (Not that I blame ya.)

The first four photos come from the newest spread for clothing brand HAZZYS, in which everyone’s favorite Crazy Horse dons winter fashions. The casualwear look is described as “cute” and “dandy guy” in style, which is about as far as you could get from his star-making turn as the gruff, passionate Jae-shin of Sungkyunkwan Scandal.

Seo Ji-hye joins movie Life Is Beautiful

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 03:30 PM PST

They’re really on a casting spree for Life Is Beautiful, aren’t they? Just a few days ago, it was announced that Im Joo-hwan would be joining Ryu Seung-beom and Younha in the film, and now Seo Ji-hye is also onboard to play Ryu’s love interest.

This human-drama-with-a-comic-touch features an insurance company employee (Ryu) who processes accident claims, and comes into contact with a diverse cast of characters while on the job. No doubt that’s how he encounters a Tourette’s sufferer (Im Joo-hwan) and aspiring singer (Younha), in addition to characters played by comic actors Sung Dong-il (Runaway Plan B) and Park Chul-min (Return of Iljimae). Seo Ji-hye’s character is Ryu’s ex, who then comes back to him.

This is great news for a project I’m already interested in, since I like all the cast members involved. Seo Ji-hye is a talented but (imo) underrated actress, and has a sweet, natural screen presence. Some of her past credits include sageuk Shin Don, sweet romance drama I Love You, and most recently, this year’s sageuk drama Kim Suro. (I breathed a sigh of relief when she dropped Birdie Buddy, which seemed like an awful waste of her skills.) She has a film slated for a December release which she’d shot last year, Tree That Sleeps Standing, which co-stars Song Chang-eui.

Life Is Beautiful will begin filming this Friday and is shooting for an early 2011 release.

Kim Min-joon takes villain’s role in Blue Salt

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 10:52 AM PST

With the addition of Kim Min-joon (Friend, Our Legend), upcoming thriller film Blue Salt has its villain — or at least another one, given that lead actress Shin Se-kyung is playing an assassin. Though I suspect she will not quite be a villainess; her character does approach the retired mob boss played by Song Kang-ho on orders to kill him, but I expect a tentative bond will develop to complicate things.

Kim Min-joon’s character is mysterious cold-blooded killer, and goes only by the name “K.” (Hmm, where have I heard that before?) As a veteran assassin, he carries out his missions swiftly and efficiently, which will give Kim a chance to show off some action chops.
