Ryu Soo-young joins My Princess

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 05:04 AM PST

My Princess, the next romantic-comedy series to come from Secret Garden writer Kim Eun-sook, has now filled out its primary quartet with the addition of Ryu Soo-young (Lawyers of Korea) in his first project after fulfilling his military service.

The drama drew attention early on with the casting of Kim Tae-hee (IRIS) and Song Seung-heon (East of Eden), then added Queen Seon-deok’s Park Ye-jin as a meddling third wheel out to claim Song for her own. Ryu will find himself in a one-sided love with Kim Tae-hee as her teacher; he’s a professor in the fine arts department where she studies, and is someone she has grown to trust and depend upon.

On top of that, Ryu’s character once dated Park Ye-jin’s character. How neat and tidy this relationship chart is! I’m sure we’ll get lots of awkward coincidences cropping up between our foursome.

On the whole, I’m not sure how I feel about this news. I don’t have a strong opinion of Ryu Soo-young, and I think he’s equally capable of going bland or appealing. I did find him adorable in Bad Couple (before that plot went to hell in a cancer-y handbasket, at least), so I know he can do gentleness and warmth. But between the four leads… I just don’t know if the acting talent is all there.

And true, I am enjoying the heck out of Kim Eun-sook’s current drama Secret Garden, but I’m not drawn to this one’s plot — an ordinary girl finds out that she’s suddenly a princess — in the same way. Plus, My Princess will have a co-writer, Jang Young-shil — who co-wrote Lovers, which I hated, and On Air, which I hated more.

My Princess will replace Kim Hye-soo’s melodramatic mystery drama Home Sweet Home on Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering in January.

Joseon X-Files: Episode 10

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 09:12 PM PST

I liked this episode a lot. I appreciate that the writers have taken the care to alternate lighter, funnier episodes with the darker, creepier, and/or more intense ones.

The plot in this one is of a stand-alone nature, but since it involves all three members of our Team X-Files, I’m happy. Plus, even though the entire drama has been a feast for the eyes, this episode in particular, with its beachside locale, was stunning to look at.

Cha Tae-hyun goes carnie for Vogue

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 03:28 PM PST

What is WITH the crazy fashion spreads lately? Did I win the lottery? I’ve certainly been a good girl this year, so maybe they’re early Christmas presents from Santa. All I know is, there’s definitely something in the water over at those magazine shoots. It’s like they’re just BEGGING for some snark. I mean, how can I not, when twin Cha Tae-hyuns are taunting me with their creepy carnie vibes?

But hey, if anyone’s going to sell “Out of a Straightjacket, Into the Circus” with panache, it’s Cha Tae-hyun.

I love that HE seems to love it, sanity be damned. But that’s what makes him such a winning actor, I suppose.

Dr. Champ: Episode 16 (Final)

Posted: 21 Nov 2010 10:00 AM PST

What?! I loved this moment!

Oh… The most beautiful (visually speaking – yes, I loved screencapping this one) drama of the year is about to end, and I'm as happy as a k-drama watcher can be, with a most satisfying ending after weeks of obsessing over such beloved characters.

I’d like to thank you avid DrChampers (?) who read and discussed throughout the series, hanging there, waiting for a resolution that would soothe your impending wrath or simply for a step forward in a drama that was almost always in the same place. And, obviously, a big hug and thanks to javabeans and girlfriday for lending us this space to write and spazz freely like two delusional fangirls or depressed emo girls in a bad day to boot (depending on the episode) *muah*

This recap is a little bit longer, it includes my awesome kaedejun sunbae’s comments below, too!

Without further ado, onto the recap!
