Army enlistment day for Jung Kyung-ho

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 04:48 AM PST

Another enlistment day for another actor: This time it’s Smile, You star Jung Kyung-ho, who headed off on the afternoon of November 30 for five weeks of training, to be followed by 20 months of active duty.

Jung debuted in the 2004 drama I’m Sorry, I Love You, and has since appeared in dramas Time of Dog and Wolf and Ja Myung Go — but it was really last year’s sweet, romantic family drama Smile, You, in which he starred opposite Lee Min-jung, that bumped him up to mainstream fame. I found him especially charming in that drama for being a hilarious example of the beta male — not always the most suave or the most commanding, but very endearing with his earnestness and spot-on comic timing. (He also had a nice role in a one-act drama, The Great Gye Choon-bin, which showcased a more somber, thoughtful side of his acting.)

Jung was sent off by a group of media and fans, and answered a few short questions before making his formal enlistment:

You’re enlisting in the midst of an unfortunate incident with the Yeonpyeong Island attack.

“With the current state of affairs, I have a heavy heart. But I’ll work hard and receive my training.”

Will you apply to serve in the entertainers’ unit?

“I haven’t thought about that yet, but I understand that there are currently no spots open in the entertainers’ unit.”

You’re older than most of your fellow soldiers. How do you think you’ll get along?

“I’ll have to adapt myself to the ways of my younger friends. I think I’ll be able to do that.”

Mary Stayed Out All Night: Episode 6

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 09:18 PM PST

How can two characters be so incredibly cute, and the rest of the drama so boring? I wish the magnetism and chemistry of Moon Geun-young and Jang Geun-seok could somehow spill into the other parts of the drama when they’re not onscreen, but sad to say, the screen only lights up when they’re on it. Since this is a drama mostly about them, at least there are plenty of scenes that fit into that category… but I’m starting to feel like even that’s not enough.

Runaway to end with a special broadcast

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 03:08 PM PST

Although an extension for Runaway Plan B has been nixed, the finale will be pushed back a week thanks to a recent pre-emption; last week’s scheduled episode of Episode 18 was postponed because of the Asia Games. That means 18 and 19 air this week, and the finale broadcasts on Wednesday, December 8.

Since most premieres usually fall on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays (depending on the show), KBS is choosing to hold back its new drama President until the following week. They’ll fill the post-finale slot (Thursday, December 9) with a special broadcast of Runaway instead, which will give us the usual look at behind-the-scenes clips, NGs, and other unaired footage. (A couple media outlets report that the producers are still negotiating, while a few others announce it as a matter of fact.)

In any case, I expect there’ll be lots of Rain goofiness in the special — at least, there’d better be! Preferably with Lee Jung-jin. Mmm, Lee Jung-jin.

Secret Garden: Episode 6

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 10:10 AM PST

Oh, the goodness. There is SO MUCH of it to go around. I knew it’d be explosive when they started inhabiting each other’s bodies, but this? This is drama heaven. I can’t promise that the schtick won’t grow old, but if Hyun Bin and Ha Ji-won keep playing it up like they do here, they can go ahead and beat these gender-bendy shenanigans into the ground.

For naming purposes, we’re going with soul-first / body-second. So: Ra-Him for Ra-im-in-Joo-won’s-body (played by Hyun Bin) and Joo-wanda for Joo-won-in-Ra-im’s-body (played by Ha Ji-won). Got it? Okay. I couldn’t pass up Joo-wanda. I mean, who could pass up Joo-wanda?

[Commercial break] Giveaway and sponsored review

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 09:01 AM PST

This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Intel.

As I mentioned previously, I was recently given the opportunity to participate in a BlogHer review program under the title “Do More, Faster.” I said yes because, hello! Doing more? Doing it faster? Now that’s the way to speak to a workaholic’s heart.

(By the way, Girlfriday and I joke — and by “joke” I mean laugh uneasily at how very much it isn’t actually a joke — about our Workaholia: both a place AND a mental condition!)

What the review entailed was assessing a laptop computer powered with the Intel Core™ i5 processor with its Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, and an Intel® Wireless Display (WiDi) adaptor that would use my HDTV as a monitor.

Or, in layman’s terms: A spiffy new laptop computer with a speedy processor and the ability to watch stuff from my computer, wirelessly, on my much larger television.

I’ve had the computer for nearly a month now and have had ample time to do work on it, travel with it, and play with all its features. Read the review, and enter to win a $250 Best Buy gift card, at the review page here.
