Official poster and release date for Late Autumn

Posted: 23 Oct 2010 06:01 AM PDT

Listen, it’ll be a miracle if I say anything coherent in this post, because WHY SO PRETTY?

I’m a fan of the scruffy look on any guy, but on Hyun Bin, it pretty much takes the cake. And the frosting on top.

The official poster and release date have been announced for 60s classic remake Late Autumn, and it premieres…you guessed it…late autumn! The film has made the rounds in the international festival circuit, and will be released nationwide in Korea on November 25.

Late Autumn (also called Manchu) made its Korean debut at the Pusan International Film Festival, where advance tickets sold out in FIVE SECONDS. Needless to say, it broke a new record for fastest sellout of a screening. Yeesh. You’d think people were buying tickets to sit in a darkened room with Hyun Bin himself.

Joseon X-Files: Episode 7

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 08:15 PM PDT

Oh man, this episode is brilliant. The more I think on it, the more brilliant it becomes. If we were giving this the U.S. television treatment, this episode would be the one to win a bunch of Emmys.

I understand if it was confusing for viewers, though, because it’s not an episode whose message is clearly spelled out at the end — there’s room for interpretation and although I’m fairly confident in mine, I’m sure there are other ways to read it. Plus, not only does this episode play with the concept of time, parts of it are told out of chronological order. Hopefully the recap is helpful rather than confusing.

Kim Ji-soo’s DUI won’t keep her out of drama

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 05:19 PM PDT

Looks like KBS is standing by leading lady Kim Ji-soo, and will not be cutting her from her upcoming sageuk drama King Geunchogo despite the controversy over her drunk hit-and-run accident a couple weeks ago.

The timing of the accident was uncomfortably close to the premiere of KBS’s new big-budget production, which had producers and broadcasters worried as the wave of public scorn for Kim’s actions cast the show in a negative light before it had even begun. The station made an early statement that they were not considering dropping Kim, but there was still speculation that her job was in danger, with the public calling for her dismissal. The tenor was particularly harsh given that this was Kim’s second DUI; the first was in 2000.

A senior rep from the drama stated on October 21 that Kim would remain onboard, saying, “We recognize that the situation with Kim Ji-soo comes with social and ethical problems. We did think hard about whether to drop her. However, she has reflected heavily and intends to throw herself even more thoroughly into her role, and she will receive sufficient punishment in a legal sense, so we decided to continue as planned.”

King Geunchogo will premiere on November 6 and is planned for 70 episodes.

Lee Min-jung at Haeundae for High Cut

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 01:12 PM PDT

Lee Min-jung is fast becoming a household name. Her latest film, romantic comedy Cyrano Dating Agency is a smash hit, spending three weeks in the number one spot in box office sales, handily surpassing the 2-million ticket mark. I pretty much died of envy watching every drama character in the last month go on dates to watch this movie. Methinks we’ll be seeing a lot of her, on the big and small screen in the months to come.

Here she heads to the Haeundae coast in a shoot for High Cut, in a perfect little peacoat. I love that her nails match. Frankly, the clothes hardly matter, as long as she’s wearing that winning smile of hers.

Can’t wait to see Cyrano, and hope to see her headlining a drama soon.

Yoo Gun and Sohn Hyun-joo’s Drama Special

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 09:19 AM PDT

The next episode of KBS’s Drama Special features an odd-couple pairing of pretty face Yoo Gun (Mazzang, Hello God) and veteran actor Sohn Hyun-joo (Sons of Sol Pharmacy, Neighbor Enemies), known for comic roles that range from old bachelor to cranky bastard.

The selection is titled Texas Hit, in which Yoo Gun plays a twentysomething delivery guy for a grocery store who also works as a computer technician. He loses the money he’d been saving to send his mother in Sports Toto (betting), and starts to dream of turning things around by hitting it big.
