[News] 'Girls Generation’s and Kara’s hot pants not allowed!' in Thailand

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 02:22 AM PDT

With their popularity increasing all over Asia, Korean girl groups have become fashion icons to young fans. The trendy hot pants these groups often wear on stage have also become popular among fans, but Thai government officials are officially warning people against wearing such garments.

On Tuesday morning, TV channel MBC's "News Today" reported on the latest fad of copying Korean girl groups in Thailand. Thai teenage girls are especially fond of hot pants that many of these groups wear, calling it the "Korean style."

However, the Thai government has ruled hot pants as a threat with regards to dengue fever that is currently sweeping the nation.

"Teenagers that wear the 'Korean style' short pants are more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes," said the Thai Deputy Minister of Public Health Anutarasak. "They should wear long pants instead of shorts."

As many as 90,000 people have contracted dengue fever this year in Thailand and there have been 100 deaths. The Thai government is warning against short pants with maximum skin exposure because dengue fever is caused by a virus spread by mosquitoes.

[News] Heechul's talk at alma mater Sangji University

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 01:38 AM PDT

Super Junior's Kim Heechul delivered a lecture in front of more than 300 students at his alma mater.

According to an aide on the 30th, Heechul paid a visit to the Sangji University on the 29th, and had delivered a talk to the students. Heechul had graduated in 2008 from the 2nd class of Sangji University's Computer Data Informatics Department, and he was invited to deliver a talk under the "Alumni Mentoring Talk" (programme).

Kim Heechul's aide told Money Today Star News that "the first and second levels were completely filled by about 300 students, to the extent that there were people who remained standing because of the lack of seats. The atmosphere at the hall was very hot."

He also said that "There are students who meticulously jotted down the contents of their senior Kim Heechul's speech, and there were exchange students from China who came for the talk as well", and that "I heard that there is one exchange student from China who is a huge fan of Heechul, and came to Sangji University because it was Heechul's alma mater."

The aide also mentioned that throughout the talk that lasted about an hour, aside from displaying a passionate appearance, Heechul also showed off his characteristic humour. He also candidly talked about his life to his juniors, starting from his childhood, to his schooling life, and later as a celebrity.

On that day, Heechul advised his juniors that "Rather than thinking about the people around you as your competitors, think of yourself as your own rival instead", and "abandon the thoughts of wanting to beat the other people, carry yourself with confidence, and if you want to have a calm life, drop your pride and feelings of inferiority." After the talk had ended, he said that "I didn't know that it's already time to go, rather, I think that I've learned a lot of things" and that "it was a meaningful experience".

The officials of Sangji University said that "based on the students' standards, Kim Heechul had delivered an eye-opening and fun talk".

With the final episode of My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox aired recently, an official MV of Lee Seungi's song, I'll Love You From Now was released with cuts from the show itself. Though i have to say, dont watch it yet if you intend to watch the show or is still watching the show, there are some major spoilers of the drama in it. Probably the main reason why they only released it after the drama has finished airing.

[news] G.NA: I'm no sex symbol

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 12:52 AM PDT

SINGAPORE : "I never saw myself as a sex symbol," said Canadian-born K-pop singer G.NA with a giggle during her press conference in Singapore last week.

"But after I debuted, a lot of people tell me 'Hey she is kind of sexy!'"

"I am not trying to portray it (sexiness) all the time but I think it's [the] natural part of me that kind of shows that."

While G.NA, whose real name is Gina Choi, looked like a cold yet alluring siren on the cover of her debut mini-album "Draw G's First Breath", she is actually very warm, bubbly and vivacious in person.

"I want to show more than just like 'Oh, I am sexy', I want to be more than that!" said Choi with a smile.

When asked if she was offended by the fact that people saw her as a sex symbol, the curvaceous singer broke into laughter.

"No! What girl doesn't feel good about being called sexy?" said Choi, who had just debuted in July this year.

The 23-year-old may be all sunshine and laughter now, but the road to stardom had been a long, winding one for Choi.

The road to stardom

Back in 2005, Choi was selected to lead a new Korean girl group called Five Girls until the group's management company decided to disband the group in 2007 due to financial difficulties.

She had a difficult choice to make that year – give up her dream and go back to school or keep on going. But for Choi, her path was clear.

"Singing is my No.1 passion so that's what kept me going," said the singer, who eventually signed with a new label and kept on training.

While her former group members have been absorbed into successful pop acts like the Wonder Girls and T-ara, Choi only managed to make her solo debut after five years in the music industry.

She admitted that debuting later than her contemporaries was a little difficult to accept at first, but she has gotten over it and does not regret her decision one bit.

"It took me five years to get to where I am right now. I don't regret a single moment though. I am very happy. I think every year that went by has me learning more and more new things. I don't regret it," said Choi with a wan smile.

"It was actually a little difficult for me. I really wanted to be where they [her former group members] are at, but ... at the same time it [the fact that they met with success] gave me faith and hope to move on each and every day, so it's really not that bad."

Culture Shock

Since her debut, Choi had worked with K-pop luminaries like Asian superstar Rain as well as boy band BEAST's Doo Jun and had steadily gained fans from across Asia, but it had taken a lot of hard work to get here.

"It's not all glitz and glam; you have to make sacrifices in order to go to where you want to get to. Because I was from Canada, I was born and raised there; I had a huge culture shock when I came to Korea.

"I thought I was Korean but I came and I'm like 'Wow! there is so much I need to know more about Korea in order for the Korean people to love me as who I am'.

"I completely understand and I completely respect that, so I started to learn about my old country and studying, learning the language, understand it," recalled Choi.

She paused for a moment before raising an example to illustrate her point.

"You know how [in Western cultures] if someone tells you something, you can just simply ask, 'Hey but why? Hey can you tell me why we have to do this?' No! Talking back is very bad."

"When elders [in Korea] tell you something to do, you have to say 'ne' (polite way of saying 'yes' in Korean).

"You can't even say 'Okay', I got into trouble for going like this (she gave a friendly wave). You have to go like this," said Choi bowing deeply.

"I knew [bowing was necessary] but it was my natural habit, using my hands when I talk and stuff. It was that kind of thing [that caused her culture shock]."

Competition

With the K-pop scene is currently dominated by big bands like the ten-member boy band Super Junior, the nine-member girl group Girl's Generation and the quintet Wonder Girls, it is a Herculean task for a newcomer like Choi to carve a solo career in such an environment.

But Choi is unfazed.

"I think it is kind of different. I am targeting a different market I think," said the singer, adding that it was her willingness to try out various genres - instead of just the 'safe' ones like ballads and dance tunes – that will help her stand out from the crowd.

100% Daikokudanji's program introductory meeting

Today there was an introductory meeting for the show "100% Daikokudanji" which will star on DATV from this month

This program with a theme whereby Daikokudanji will with an unmasked face thoroughly show their best , is a program where the five members of Daikokudanji will depart on the streets of Japan, and challenge various things such as games and sports.

The five members with an average age of 18 have reactions that are very innocent and in front of the TV, showed sweet smiles.

Everyone in Daikokudanji has really good Japanese!!
Everyday, they were ferociously studying and
Even at today's introductory meeting the talk was almost completely in Japanese
By the five member's unconstrained actions,
The reporters and the cameramen were brought to laughter (^_-)-☆

Beforehand, from when the members were receiving the questions from the reporters, on a few questions a representative was allowed to enquire about them, but whilst they were answering the question "Please tell us the real face of the members that only you know!" Karam responded "I can copy the sound of a dog" and presented to us a perfect level replication of the dog sounds…

We asked about the other member's unmasked sides but…

It's good! It's good!!

Personal appeal is very important ヽ(^。^)ノ

(When Karam was presenting his dog sounds, Injun who was sitting next to him, without a moment's delay, concealed Karam's face. The neighbours' show of cooperation was also good~ (*^。^*) )

After that, the initial question unfortunately flew away somewhere and Injun kindly showed us his beatboxing skills.

That was also well done!!

The ability of practising though watching and copying can be described with one word - "wonderful!"

Apart from Injun, the other members of Daikokudanji seem to also be able to do Acapella.
Having a special skill is good isn't it~♪♪

After that, finally with the intention of answering my initial question, they told us about the other member's true sides.

Hyunmin is very tidy, and his room is apparently very neat
Injun apparently, at Shabu Shabu yesterday ate enough meat for 30 servings…
Apart from that, the members talked about the other member's true sides one by one,
It wasn't just the one person holding the microphone talking,
But everyone freely remarked as they liked (*^。^*)
Daikokudanji is very cheerful and high-spirited
It was a very 'at-home' kind of interview.

I listened to the member's true sides for the entire day but,
Injun ended the interview with "If you watch 100% Daikokudanji, you will understand our true selves!"

Ah yeah(*^_^*)
That's exactly it!!

"100% Daikokudanji" will air every 4th Friday of the month from 23:30 - 24:00 (11:30PM - 12:00AM)

Firstly, please check the broadcast of the first episode on October 22nd!

※The photos will be uploaded later!
Please wait a moment \(^o^)/

While on vacations in the States, Super Junior's Heechul managed to spare some time to update his twitter. Through numerous tweets, Heechul managed to make his English/Chinese/Thai and Korean fans crack up. In the majority of his English tweets, he speaks in a cool 'gangster' tone.

I'm trying to learn English for my petalz. Plz understand my bebe english.
Whats LOL? Oh, the English I learnt at school is useless.

And then he soon figured out what 'LOL' actually means.

Laugh out loud ~ keke Is that it?

A few of his tweets were dedicated to his Chinese and Thai Petals as well (to those of you who are wondering what a Petal is, it's what Heechul's fans are called.)

我爱你~♥ I love you~
ผมรักคุณ~ I love you~

He's tweeting some more right now, so head over to his twitter and check his newest tweets out! I'm sure
you'll start laughing.
