It’s enlistment day for Kim Ji-hoon

Posted: 04 Oct 2010 05:21 AM PDT

Kim Ji-hoon (29) is off for the next two years to serve his country, and said his goodbyes to the press and public on October 4 at the Nonsan training facility. He will train there for five weeks, then begin 22 months of active duty.

Kim was recently the subject of a romantic “scandal” (which just means dating rumors; there’s no negative connotation to it) with his Joseon X-Files co-star, Im Jung-eun. While they’ve been a little coy about it, he did say on the 4th that he asked her particularly to come visit while he’s enlisted — but made sure to clarify with a laugh, “Since it’s not true, there’s no reason for us to avoid each other. Still, since it might cause misunderstandings, I told her to come with other friends.”

Runaway (Plan B): Episodes 1-2

Posted: 03 Oct 2010 08:50 PM PDT

Runaway: Plan B premiered this past week to huge intro ratings, setting KBS up for yet another hit this year. (You may know the title as Fugitive: Plan B but don’t worry if you’re confused, since not even the drama’s official site is keeping things consistent.)

What we get here is a stylish action drama that is — let’s face it — pretty fluffy entertainment but executed well and with a cheeky attitude. It knows exactly what it is, and plays that to the hilt. The casting is spot-on and the action sequences are designed to achieve maximum cool effect.

Did I like it? Very much in parts, and not much at all in other parts. It’s complicated. We’ll get to that.

Jang Dong-gun and Go So-young become parents

Posted: 03 Oct 2010 03:56 PM PDT

Top stars Jang Dong-gun and wife Go So-young have welcomed their first child into the world, a baby boy born on the morning of October 4 at a Kangnam hospital in Seoul.

According to the stars’ management, the boy weighed in at 3.23 kg. Jang was at his wife’s side for the delivery, and both mother and child are reportedly healthy and well. Their son just missed sharing a birthday with mom, who turns 38 two days later on October 6. (Jang is 38.)

The couple married on May 2 this year after announcing that they were expecting. Given that Jang is practically the most popular Korean actor, like, ever, the event was a veritable who’s who of the biggest names in the Korean entertainment industry.

Congrats to the happy family! Man, is that kid gonna be gorgeous or what?

Pointy vulcan ears and Superman tee, the dream of a geek girl!

Howdy, my friends! So glad to be here writing (thanks to our overlords Javabeans and Girlfriday ;) ) alongside my lovely kaedejun sunbae! I'll start by saying this: I had minus forty-two expectations for this drama. In fact, the only reason why I decided to check it out was my love for Kim So Yeon. Surprisingly, I ended up liking it a lot!

Choi Su-jong and Ha Hee-ra to play husband and wife

Posted: 03 Oct 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Real-life married couple Choi Su-jong (Comrades) and Ha Hee-ra (Give Me Food) will be acting together as onscreen husband and wife for the first time. Upcoming KBS drama President will pair them as President and First Lady, setting the stage for a pretty epic first onscreen meeting.

The couple married in 1993 and have never acted together in a project, despite both having mile-long resumes in film and tv.

Choi Su-jong will play Jang Il-joon, an idealistic civil rights lawyer turned congressman, putting him on the path toward the Blue House. Ha Hee-ra will play Jo So-hee, daughter to a chaebol family who’s whip-smart, and beautiful to boot. My guess is that their love story will span several decades, as the drama is described as Jang’s journey toward becoming President.

I like the trajectory of the story as it’s described, because I think the campaign will be such great drama fodder, with scandals, reversals, and a hard-earned victory. Plus, I adore the idea that husband and wife will be playing husband and wife.

President follows Runaway: Plan B and premieres December 8 on KBS.
