Jang Hyuk up for new drama Poseidon Posted: 05 Oct 2010 07:00 AM PDT After dropping out of melo-fantasy drama Secret Garden (to be replaced by Hyun Bin, backstory here), Jang Hyuk is close to picking his next project: upcoming action-adventure drama Poseidon. Think god of the sea, not Hollywood action film about sinking ships. The drama, penned by screenwriter Jo Kyu-won (IRIS) and directed by PD Yoo Chul-yong (All In, H.I.T., Swallow the Sun), is about the Coast Guard. Er, I’m not sure if Coast Guard is right, since it’s not military, but more like ocean police. If there’s a better way to officially classify “cops on boats,” then that’d be them. I don’t know any other plot details, but if the writer of IRIS is behind it, expect some intrigue, explosions, and guns. I don’t really care as long as he comes to work dressed like he is above. The lead role was originally slated for Kang Ji-hwan, but his ongoing legal battle (over contracts) involved the production company for the drama, so they turned their eyes toward newly available Jang Hyuk for the lead. He’s currently reading the script, and looking upon the project favorably. If he goes with this drama (which I personally think is a better fit for him), it’ll be his first role in a year since Chuno. Poseidon is aiming for broadcast early next year. Posted: 04 Oct 2010 10:46 PM PDT Dare I say it? Okay, I’ll call it: Best drama of the year, folks. Given that statement, I feel doubly guilty for letting Joseon X-Files fall behind — apologies for the delay, but in case you hadn’t noticed, there are a lot of dramas airing at the moment! Trust the year to backload everything so that it becomes painful to choose which ones get attention first. The reason I’ve been slower with this drama isn’t because I like it less, but because it’s so good — I like to pay attention and grasp every detail. Posted: 04 Oct 2010 09:47 PM PDT Hot damn. Someone’s lookin’ good. Song Joong-ki poses in a James-Dean-esque photoshoot for Bazaar’s October issue, looking every bit the manly ingenue that he is. As Gu Yong-ha in fusion-sageuk Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Song has shown a flamboyant pretty boy image, complete with affectations that definitely skew him left of center. Which just makes me love him more. (...) © girlfriday for Dramabeans, 2010. | Permalink | 64 comments | Add to del.icio.us |

Choi Jung-won’s trip to Kyushu Posted: 04 Oct 2010 10:32 AM PDT Actress Choi Jung-won (Wish Upon a Star) recently traveled to Kyushu, Japan, and has released these photos from the trip. She went as part of a road documentary program she shot with cable channel ETN, which followed her around as she went sightseeing. One of the broadcast station staffers who accompanied her explained that although Choi has a very feminine and proper image from her dramas, she’s really more of a tomboy and was very open and lively with the staff. (Choi was bubbly and cute in her latest drama, Wish Upon a Star, but that was a departure from her pre-existing images from earlier roles like sageuk drama Kingdom of the Wind and the popular family series Infamous Chil Sisters.)
